Pulaski County Auditor’s Race Once Again Contested as Candidates Fill Vacancies on General Election Ballot

Three more candidates have been added to Pulaski County’s General Election ballot. The Democratic Party has added candidates for the auditor’s and recorder’s races after no Democrats ran in the primary, according to Clerk JoLynn Behny.

In the auditor’s race, incumbent Republican Laura Wheeler now faces a challenge from Democrat Carmin Ruff. Wheeler just barely won her primary over Tim Hoffa Jr. Meanwhile, Criston Zehner is running for county recorder against incumbent Republican Sue Fox, who was unopposed in the primary.

Additionally, a second Democrat has joined the county council race. Sheila Hazemi-Jimenez joins Democrat Renee Calabrese and Republicans Ken Boswell, Adam Loehmer, and Tim Overmyer in a race for the council’s three at-large seats.

That leaves several offices that have already been decided, ahead of November’s election. Charles Mellon Jr. is the presumptive District 2 Pulaski County Commissioner. Kendra Craft appears set to take over as Winamac clerk-treasurer next year, while Pulaski County Treasurer Teresa Bryant and Medaryville Clerk-Treasurer Stacy Conley are expected to keep their offices for another four-year term.

In Starke County, District 3 Commissioner Charlie Chesak and Surveyor Bill Crase appear to be holding on to their offices, as they go into the General Election unopposed. The Starke County Clerk’s Office hasn’t had any new candidates file before the deadline.

The last group of candidates to file for November’s election will be for the elected school boards. That filing window runs from July 22 to August 21.
