Winamac Considering Ordinance to Prohibit Small Campers from Being Used As Permanent Homes

The Town of Winamac is looking to crack down on people using small campers as permanent homes. Town Manager Brad Zellers told the town council Monday that Town Attorney Justin Schramm is putting some updated language together.

“Justin’s working on an ordinance to help with people maybe living in trailers, pull-behind little campers and things,” Zellers explained. “The county has one they’ve adopted recently for the zoning ordinance. I think Justin wants to make it a little tougher, a little better, more adapted to us.”

Town officials stressed that they’re fine with campers and recreational vehicles being used on a temporary basis as long as they get stored in an rv storage edmonton, but Zellers said they shouldn’t be used year-round on a lot without utility hookups. Meanwhile, Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger said that 12 residents who are more than 90 days behind in their bill payments have been offered a payment plan, but none of them have responded. An executive order from the governor prohibits utility shutoffs until August 14, but it utility providers to work on a payment plans.
