The Knox Water Department media replacement project is complete. Peerless Midwest was contracted to do the work at a cost of $147,000.
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told the Knox City Council members Tuesday night that there is already a big difference in the clarity and quality of the water. Water Department crews will flush fire hydrants in May to clear out any more iron that may have accumulated in the lines.
The media is a filter that removes iron, manganese and hardness from the water before it reaches a consumer’s home. It consists of gravel, sand, green sand and anthracite.
Water Department Superintendent Tim Lindewald explained to the Knox Board of Works members in a recent meeting that some other repairs needed to be done once the old media was removed from a well, but it did not hinder the process.
All three filters are now in working order.
