Unemployment rates are relatively steady in Starke and Pulaski counties. Starke County’s October unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s down from 3.6 percent the month before and 3.8 percent during the same period last year.

Funding arrangements for the Winamac ambulance garage expansion were discussed during last week’s Pulaski County Council meeting. EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo explained that the contractor that won the bid can’t start until next year, meaning that most of the cost can’t come out of this year’s budget.

Some Winamac silos will soon be reinvigorated with public art, thanks to a grant from the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. Anne Rebeck serves as the federation’s Pulaski County representative. “We, through them, have a $10,000 grant for public art,” she told the Winamac Town Council Monday. “So I have permission from Mary Sue Link to use the silos that are on the Panhandle Pathway, and we’ll hopefully get that done by early summer.”

Purdue Extension will continue to serve Pulaski County, at least for another year. The county commissioners approved the Extension Contractual Services Agreement last week. The county agrees to pay Purdue almost $62,000. County Attorney Kevin Tankersley said the agreement is the same as it’s been every year.
