Cyber security insurance will end up costing Pulaski County more than double what was originally thought. Back in August, the county commissioners voted to move forward with a policy from EMC Insurance, at a cost of just over $4,100 a year. LaPorte County Police say they’ve arrested a 13-year-old girl for intimidation, in connection with a threat that caused a “lockout” at New Prairie Middle School Friday. The sheriff’s office says Deputy Paul Adams, who serves as New Prairie’s school resource officer, continued to investigate the threatening text message over the weekend.

LaPorte County Police are investigating, after a threatening text message was received by a New Prairie Middle School student Thursday night. Officers say the message came from a number the student didn’t recognize, but it included a direct threat to the school’s safety and security.

Back in July, the county commissioners disbanded the county’s IT department, and later agreed to contract IT services out to DeGroot Technology. Now, DeGroot has notified officials that it will stop providing services to the county in January.

Efforts to add decorative lighting to the Winamac Town Park’s Memorial Bridge are drawing community support. Project organizer Greg Henry told the Winamac Park Board Thursday that he’s already heard from people interested in donating. “It’s kind of a big project, much bigger than I anticipated at first,” Henry said. “But it’s going in the right direction.”

Eastern Pulaski’s proposed teacher contract drew no concerns during a public hearing Wednesday. Teachers would see a slight pay raise under the tentative 2019-2020 master contract agreement, according to Interim Superintendent Dr. Gib Crimmins. “It’s a small increase on the base scale and a small stipend,” he explained.
