Hamlet Town Council Reviews Yellowstone Trail Festival

Despite a few challenges, Hamlet officials are happy with the outcome of this year’s Yellowstone Trail Festival. Town Council President Dave Kesvormas thanked festival organizers during Wednesday’s council meeting. “We’re really happy it happened, that you guys didn’t decide to wig out and back off because of COVID or anything like that,” Kesvormas said.

Road Closed, Tree Damage

CR 300 E is closed for most of the day due to a large tree that has fallen across the roadway just South of Culver Rd. Damaging several Nipsco poles and wires. Nipsco and county highway are on scene.

Oregon-Davis School Board to Accept Student Debt Relief Donation Tonight

A $25,000 donation to wipe out student debt will be up for the Oregon-Davis School Board’s official approval tonight. Board members approved an agreement last month that would let school officials collect outstanding fees by intercepting state income tax refunds, but the Starke County Community Foundation’s Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund has since agreed to pay them off entirely.

North Judson Taking Steps to Finalize Railroad Sale, Discussions over LaCrosse Property Continue

The Town of North Judson is finalizing plans for the sale of its short-line railroad. Last month, the town’s redevelopment commission voted to sell the 33-mile railroad corridor to Midwest & Bluegrass Rail for $2,725,000. The deal cleared another procedural hurdle last week, when the commission passed a resolution confirming the corridor’s economic development area, which was initially created last summer.
