High school juniors and seniors with a 3.0 grade point average can participate in Ancilla’s Early Bird program. A brief letter of recommendation is needed by a guidance counselor. A selection of courses is available online and students can take afternoon, evening and Saturday courses in the program.
SCILL Center Graduation Program Set for May 16
Dr. Ron May, President of Ancilla College, will be the featured speaker during the event scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT. Scholarships will be awarded to the students as well as special awards for attendance, performance skills and highest test score average.
Ancilla Board of Trustees Votes to Reduce Tuition

While most colleges and universities in Indiana have made headlines with their tuition increases, the Ancilla College Board of Trustees have voted to approve a four percent across-the-board tuition reduction for the 2013-2014 school year.
The new tuition cost will be $6,500 per semester for a full-time student enrolled in 15 credit hours.
Free Financial Aid Workshops at Ancilla College
Ancilla College is offering a free financial aid workshop tomorrow afternoon.
This workshop will enable students, parents and adults file prepare to file for state and federal financial aid for college. The Free Application for Free Student Aid, or FAFSA, form will be dissected in detail in order to be sent before the March 10 deadline.

A free college course to first-time students is being offered during the spring semester at Ancilla College.
As part of the “We Believe in You” program, the college is offering adult learners who are 21 years and older and who have never attended college the chance to take a class with up to three credit hours at no cost.

First-time college students now have the opportunity to sample a taste of higher education, as Ancilla College is now offering a free college course as part of the “We Believe in You” program. The program, designed for adult learners ages 21 and up, allows a student to take a class with up to three credit hours at no cost whatsoever.
All students enrolled in the program will meet with an academic advisor who will assist them every step of the way in attending college for their first time, including assistance with the registration process, help with filing a financial aid application, choosing the right educational opportunities and much more.

Kelly Manning and Ericka Taylor-Joseph, both Starke County residents, are now part of Ancilla’s Admission Department as admissions counselors. Both have extensive connections to regional schools and community organizations.

Tri Ancilla Event Raises $4600
Todd Zeltwanger, executive director of Institutional Advancement at Ancilla College, has announced the recently-held Tri Ancilla event netted approximately $4600. Zeltwanger said that was significantly up over the past two years.
The event also brought a field of 140 participants from five different states to the college for the fourth annual triathlon. Men and women, ranging in age from 15 to 87, participated in a 500-yard swim, 11-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run that toured the Donaldson campus and surrounding areas.
Prizes were awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as the winners of various age groups. On the men’s side, the overall winner was Jim Langfeldt of Plymouth. On the women’s side, the overall winner was Madison Woods of Osceola.
The event was held on May 19.
Ancilla College to Hold Graduation Services Saturday

Ancilla College will hold graduation services on Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. ET in the Ancilla Domini Chapel. Over 100 graduation applications have been received and December 2011 graduates will also be included in the proceedings.
The Commencement Speaker will be Sister Virginia Kampwerth, Ancilla College President from 1985 through 1994. Kampwerth graduated from Ancilla Domini High School and Ancilla Domini College before beginning her distinguished career in education that eventually led her to serve as Academic Dean and President of Ancilla College. She is currently Provential Councilor of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ American Province.
Ancilla College Announces New Interim Admissions Director

Ancilla College in Donaldson has a new Interim Admissions Director. His name is Eric Wignall, and even though he’s new to the admissions office he is not new to Ancilla. Wignall has been with the college for a year-and-a-half doing market-type research.
We asked Wignall to describe his job.
“The Director of Admissions is the person who is involved in bringing students to Ancilla,” explained Wignall. “I’m part of the funnel, or the system of people who tell you about Ancilla College and how it works.”
Gas Prices One Reason Why Ancilla College Froze Tuition

The Ancilla Board of Trustees recently approved a decision to freeze tuition for the coming fall semester. Ancilla President, Dr. Ron May, was asked if part of the decision had to do with gasoline prices. He said that it was.
“Its a major challenge for our students,” stated Dr. May. “One of the things we have is an emergency fund and occasionally we have our students who need help with gas. Through a mechanism that we have put in place, we sometimes give them gas cards.”
Knox Elementary Students Visit Ancilla College

Forty seventh-grade students from Knox Elementary School visited Ancilla College as part of the middle school’s Career Day experience. After being greeted by Dr. Ron May, president of the college, the students were divided into groups and provided four different fun learning sessions. Dr. John Fogl used cow hearts to teach them about the human heart and biology. In business, John Gough gave each student “Ancilla money” to invest in one of three cookie mines, and to spend on cookie mining equipment. The students who made the most money earned prizes.
Math students were given time to solve problems on computers. Jill Neidlinger conducted this presentation. The fourth group was given a tour of the campus and Nursing Lab.
Each group rotated through each of the presentations.
The day ended with the students competing in an Ancilla Jeopardy game, with the winning team receiving prizes.
Knox Middle School Students to Visit Ancilla Today

Seventh grade students from the Knox Middle School will be visiting Ancilla College today. According to Todd Zeltwanger, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at the college, the students will tour the facility, visit classrooms, the dining area, and Chapel. They will also visit with faculty members including those in the nursing department.
Ancilla Board Votes to Freeze Tuition

Many state colleges and universities have announced tuition increases for the next academic year, but Ancilla College will not be raising tuition rates. President Dr. Ron May talks about the Board’s decision to keep prices the same:
“Ancilla College approved freezing tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year,” stated Dr. May. “This tuition freeze was taken to make college affordable for all those who wanted to pursue a college degree or finish what they may have already started. Along with the tuition freeze, we offer a variety of grants and scholarships for all kinds of students.”
Janeen Berndt to Leave Ancilla College

After spending eight years as a member of the nursing faculty at Ancilla College, Janeen Berndt is ready to move on—much to the sadness of her coworkers.
Berndt was the first full-time nursing faculty member that was hired at Ancilla, and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Nursing. She recently found an opportunity to work at Western Governors University as a Student Mentor, and she feels that’s an opportunity she cannot pass up.
Berndt said it would give her the extra time to spend with her children, and she’s excited for the position because it will give her the opportunity to work with graduate students. Berndt said she will miss the faculty and the students more than anything, and said leaving Ancilla will be like leaving her family.
Charles Weaver, Betty Chesak to Receive Awards at Ancilla College Recognition Dinner

In the African Lunyoro tribe, there is a proverb that whose translation is “A child does not grow up in a single home.”
More recently it has been used as “It takes a Village to Raise a Child”.
Charles Weaver has always lived by an African proverb and tonight, when he will be honored for his service to Ancilla College that proverb, will be on his mind as he steps to the podium. Since 1975, Weaver has worked tirelessly for Ancilla, a college he says is “near and dear to his heart.” Tonight, Charles Weaver will receive the Ancilla Award.

Ancilla College’s annual recognition dinner will be on October 6th on the campus of the school at Donaldson, Indiana.
Betty Chesak will be honored as the Sister Mary D. award winner and Charles Weaver will receive the Ancilla Award. This award is given to an individual who is a community leader who has demonstrated service and commitment to Ancilla and the community.
Ancilla College Recognition Banquet Scheduled for October 6th

The annual Ancilla College Recognition Banquet will be held Thursday, October 6th, on the campus.
During the evening, two important awards will be conferred on a pair of important people to the college. The first award is the Sister Mary D. award given to a person who has shown outstanding leadership in promoting Ancilla College. The recipient of the award is Betty Chesak, of North Judson, who has for many years worked tirelessly to raise money for scholarships through the Alumni Association.
