The replacement of a bridge on Pulaski County Road 700 North over Bogus run has come in under budget. Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff told the county commissioners Monday that the final amount ended up being over $47,000 less than expected.

Francesville Getting New Street Signs
New street signs will soon be going up in Francesville. Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett says it’s to comply with state standards that call for both capital and lower-case letters on street signs. She says the town has been buying the signs over the past couple years, and now the Street Department is getting ready to put them up.
Knox Board of Works Awards Bids for Community Crossing Grant Projects
Knox Board of Public Works and Safety members considered bids for two Community Crossings projects when they met last Wednesday.
Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told board members that since the 2018 grant application has not been submitted yet, these proposed projects are not a done deal. Borg said, “The way this will work is, we have bid them out and we will award the contractor with the bid, providing that we are awarded the grant.”
He explained that the bids were broken up to account for two separate projects; a mill and fill job as well as an overlay project. The companies that submitted offers were E&B Paving and Reith. Continue reading

Hamlet Plans to Seek Community Crossings Grant for Railroad Street Improvements
As the Town of Hamlet works to wrap up one Community Crossings project, town officials are now looking ahead to this year’s grant cycle. Hamlet is eligible for a 75-25 matching grant for road projects. During Wednesday’s town council meeting, members said that Railroad Street is next in line for improvements, not only because of its condition, but also the amount of traffic it handles.
Knox Mayor Reports Pearl Street Paving Has to Wait Until Aging Pipes Are Replaced
Paving on Pearl Street that was originally listed as one of the Community Crossings Grant projects for the City of Knox will have to wait.

Winamac Town Council Opens Bids for Community Crossings Grant Projects
Paving bids for Community Crossings Grant projects were opened during last week’s Winamac Town Council meeting. Members opened bids from the companies Walsh and Kelly, E&B Paving, Central Paving and Reith Riley when they met last Monday.
E&B Paving’s bid was the highest with a $146,865 total bid. Reith Riley’s provided the next highest with a total bid of about $159,239. Walsh and Kelly submitted the second lowest total bid at $139.993 and Central Paving’s total bid was the least expensive at about $121,537. All total bids included the company’s base bid plus an alternative bid. Continue reading
Mayor of Knox Provides Community Crossings Project Update at City Council Meeting
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok alerted city council members that work has begun on a Community Crossings Grant project. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok explained that crews recently began removing old curbs and sidewalks on Water Street.
As a part of the project that was submitted to INDOT and subsequently approved, curbs and sidewalks will be replaced and repaving on Water Street, as well as Main Street from U.S. 35 to Mound Street, will be completed. Continue reading

Pulaski County Council to Consider Funding for Hospital MRI Building
Whether Pulaski Memorial Hospital will get almost $800,000 for its new MRI building from the county’s Cumulative Building Fund will be up for discussion during tonight’s county council meeting. Under the proposal, that money would be given to the hospital in 17 installments between now and 2027.
Pulaski County Council Approves Budget Transfer to Help Cover Circuit Court Overtime Costs
Overtime costs continue to add up for Pulaski Circuit Court. The Pulaski County Council voted Monday to transfer $5,000 into the court’s overtime budget from the law books line item, at the request of Judge Michael Shurn. “Last week, a two-day jury trial morphed into a four-day one,” he explained. “And I was working 16-hour days, and my staff was real close to that.”
NJ Town Superintendent Discusses Funding for Paving and Sidewalk Upgrades
North Judson Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann told council members that the town was recently awarded $158,160 in Federal Highway Administration funds for phase three of their ADA compliance project.
At their meeting last Monday, he mentioned since planning and engineering costs haven’t been factored in yet, that won’t even be the complete amount awarded. The Town of Medaryville is getting ready for its summer street paving project. Last week, the town council approved a contract with McMahon Associates for engineering work, according to Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood.
