Starke County is reporting its first COVID-19 death. A Starke County man died Saturday at Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital, according to the Starke County Health Department. Health officials say the man was over the age of 50 and had multiple serious preexisting conditions.

Starke County Health Nurse Frank Lynch reported the tenth positive COVID-19 case Sunday morning.

In its daily update, the Indiana State Department of Health announced an additional 508 have been diagnosed with COVID-19, as determined through testing from the Indiana State Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories.

The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Marshall County has risen to 14 while Starke County has eight cases and Pulaski County has one case.

The Indiana Supreme Court handed down a decision this week that denies a request from the American Civil Liberties Union that would allow prisoners to be let out of prison who are at a heightened risk for severe illness or death from COVID-19. The request included early release of inmates who are within six months of their expected release date, reduction of sentences, place qualified inmates on home detention, or grant early parole.
