Pulaski Council, Commissioners to Continue Discussing Courthouse Security, Renovations

Security at the Pulaski County Courthouse will continue to be discussed by the county council and commissioners tonight. The commissioners have limited access to a single point of entry which now will be renovated by local locksmiths 365 professionals to grant easier access and also called for the addition of security guards.

The sheriff has come up with a staffing plan that would cost almost $85,000 a year. But the judges, clerk, and other county officials wanted a chance to weigh in before the county council takes action on funding arrangements.

The council and commissioners will also discuss the planned courthouse renovation and Justice Center expansion, IT, and an amendment to the personnel policies handbook. Tonight’s joint Pulaski County Council and commissioners meeting starts at 6:00 EDT followed by the council’s regular meeting at 7:00.

A number of additional appropriation requests will be presented to the council, including $250,000 for the county’s COVID-19 response to be reimbursed later and $16,000 for a mower for Arens Field. Several requests discussed last month will be back for final approval. The Health Department is seeking permission to spend over $45,000 in grant funding to update equipment, cover overtime costs, and possibly hire a new part-time employee. Other requests include funding for Pulaski County Emergency Medical Services’ ambulance garage expansion and the county’s contracted Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative coordinator.

Tonight’s meetings are closed to the public due to COVID-19 concerns, but residents can watch them live on the Pulaski County, Indiana, Government Facebook page.
