Boil Water Order In Effect for Some Hamlet Residents
A “boil water” order in the trailer park in north Hamlet is expected to remain in effect until Friday. Water and Street Superintendent Fred Rowe told the town board last night a water line was cut in the area. The Veterans Day Holiday delayed a lab testing of a water sample. North Judson will have a new clerk-treasurer in January. Democrat Alicia Collins beat incumbent Republican Donna Henry by a six-point margin, while incumbent North Judson Council President Wendy Hoppe fended off a challenge from Democrat Joan Haugh to hold onto her seat. Hamlet Officials Move Forward With Demolition Plans
The Hamlet Town Board last night took action to accept a proposal from JD Excavating to raze two abandoned houses in the town. The work will begin pending the building inspector’s final approval.
Discussion followed a resident’s inquiry about providing Hamlet residents access to a Bank ATM near the Town Hall. An alternative plan also under discussion was for the town itself to purchase am automatic teller machine to provide the service. Continue reading
Hamlet Man Faces Meth Charges
A Monday morning home visit by Starke County Community Corrections ended with a trip to jail for a Hamlet man. They contacted the Hamlet Police Department after doing a routine check on 51-year-old Donald Frazier and reportedly finding suspicious items. Continue reading

Civic Pride Shines in Hamlet
Work continues to revitalize downtown Hamlet. Lee Nagai has installed a street light at the downtown intersection of Davis and Starke Streets that is similar to those used there decades ago. The town board is considering installation of additional street lights, of the same style, in the downtown area sometime in the future. Nagai has also remodeled the south-east corner building to fit the theme of “old time” business buildings. Continue reading

Food Pantry Emerges Victorious in WKVI Sports Bet
Starke County residents who need a hand up are the big winners in the good-natured bet between WKVI’s Nathan Welter and Mary Perren over the outcome of the recent Knox v. North Judson-San Pierre football game. Since Nathan is a graduate and Knox and they lost, part of his payoff was hosting an hour-long food drive at Heartland Markets in North Judson.
