The Marshall County Safety Commission heard concerns about trains stopped at crossings which creates an issue when buses are transporting students to and from school.
Cindy King from the John Glenn School Corporation said there are at least three instances a week where a train blocks a bus route for buses transporting students to school. She said a new route will have to be constructed for next year.
In one month, students will be back in the classrooms.
The John Glenn School Corporation will open doors on Tuesday, Aug. 12 for students. The elementary schools will begin with instruction at 7:53 a.m. and dismiss school at 2:45 p.m. ET. Students in the middle school will start the school day at 7:55 a.m. and with a 2:50 p.m. dismissal and high school students will begin at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m.
John Glenn is gearing up for their annual Falloween Fest, kicking off Sept. 13 and running through Sept. 15 at 201 John Glenn Drive in Walkerton. The John Glenn School Corporation has a number of events planned for the weekend, including activities for the entire family and fundraising efforts by school organizations, community groups, civic groups and area churches to raise money for college scholarship for the school corporation’s students.

Superintendent Richard Reese presented the audience with a letter which he read aloud, written by a parent of an autistic child who wished to thank Rizek for helping the child show outstanding improvement throughout the course of the school year.
Rizek will now vie for the distinction of the state “Teacher of the Year” award, an award that had previously been given to the late Bob Mulligan, at art teacher at the corporation who won the award in the 1970s.
A John Glenn High School student died Friday night in a one vehicle car accident in the 30000 block of Riley Road south of North Liberty.
According to a published report, 17-year-old Tyler Wiegand, of North Liberty, was traveling eastbound in his pick-up when it went off the north side of the road, just west of Sycamore. The pickup rolled several times before coming to a stop in a ditch.
