Knox City Council Moves Forward with Bond Process Required for Fire Truck Purchase
Steps were taken by Knox City Council members this week to finalize financial arrangements related to a pumper truck that will be purchased for the Knox-Center Township Fire Department.
An appropriation hearing was held and two ordinances were considered on final readings when members met on Tuesday.
These steps were necessary so that when officials are ready to make a payment for the truck, the General Obligation bonds that are being used to finance the purchase will be sold and then the money can be appropriated to pay the fire truck company. Continue reading
Knox City Council Considers General Obligation Bond Ordinances on First Reading
Knox City Council moved one step closer to acquiring a new fire truck for the Knox-Center Township Fire Department when they met Tuesday evening.
Two ordinances related to the 2018 General Obligation Bonds that will be required for the fire truck purchase were passed on first reading.
The first ordinance authorizes the sale of the bonds while the second one permits the funds to be appropriated once the truck is ready to be purchased. Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston explained that the ordinances will need to be advertised before they can be passed on final reading. Continue reading
Knox City Council to Consider Ordinances Pertaining to G.O. Bonds at Tonight’s Meeting
Ordinances pertaining to the authorization and appropriation of the 2018 General Obligation Bonds will be considered when Knox City Council members meet tonight.
The G.O Bonds are being acquired for the purchase of a fire truck for the Knox-Center Township Fire Department.

City of Knox Streets Open, Wastewater Treatment Plant Back to Normal Functions
All of the roads closed due to flooding in the City of Knox are now open. Knox Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the Board of Works members Wednesday morning that rerouting the truck traffic helped keep trucks out of danger and be on more solid roads.
The city had 60 tons of sand available for sand bags and the county brought in another 50 tons of sand to fill sand bags. Borg said about 10 tons of sand remain for city use. Any sand bags that are no longer needed may soon be collected and the sand re-deposited at the city street department.
Knox Mayor Thanks Residents Who Pitched in During this Weekend’s Emergency Situation
Over the weekend, there were many Knox residents who pitched in to help keep flood waters at bay and Mayor Dennis Estok extended his gratitude to those dedicated individuals during Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
The mayor said, “That just goes to show us that we might be a small community, but we’re a strong community when people need help and that was very evident Saturday night, if you would have seen the operation it was something to see, so I want to thank everybody for helping us out.” Continue reading
Knox Center Township and LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Departments Assist DNR With Rescue
On Sunday morning, members of the Knox Center Township Fire Department joined forces with the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department as well as DNR Conservation Officers to rescue an elderly individual from his home as floodwaters encroached.
Indiana DNR Law representatives from district 10 report that firefighters deployed a boat to rescue the resident and Conservation Officers deployed another boat as a secondary rescue vessel. Continue reading
Knox House Fire Ruled Accidental
Firefighters battled a house fire in the 4100 block of East 200 South in Knox Sunday night.
According to Knox-Center Township Fire Chief Kenny Pfost, the Indiana State Fire Marshal deemed the fire accidental. The fire started in a recessed lighting fixture in the front porch area of the home.
Pfost added that crews from the Knox-Center Township Fire Department, Hamlet-Davis Fire Department and Washington Township Fire Department were at the scene for about four hours battling the blaze.

Knox Fire Crews Battle House Fire
Firefighters from the Knox-Center Township Fire Department battled a house fire in the 1400 block of U.S. 35 just north of Knox.
When they arrived at the scene just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, flames could be seen from the back of the residence. Dark, heavy smoke billowed from the eaves. According to Fire Chief Kenny Pfost, all of the occupants were out of the house, but a dog remained inside. Firefighters entered the house, located the dog and carried it to safety. No injuries were reported.
Fire Crews Battle Early Morning Blaze
Firefighters from three fire departments battled a fire this morning at a building on the northeast corner of Plymouth and Starke Streets in Hamlet.
Three Injured in U.S. 30 Accident
Three people were injured in a traffic accident on U.S. 30 at Knoll Brothers in Starke County this morning.
Starke County deputies conducted an investigation and found that a semi truck pulled out of the truck stop headed west on U.S. 30 when a driver in an SUV traveling in the same direction rear-ended the semi, according to witness accounts released in a news release by the sheriff’s department. The SUV rolled on its side. The SUV was pulling a wood chipper at the time of the accident. The semi was stopped four-tenths of a mile west of the scene on U.S. 30.
Teen Charged with Arson
A house fire in Knox on Thursday turned out to be the act of arson and a suspect is in custody.
Firefighters from the Knox-Center Township Fire Department were called to a house fire in the 2000 East block of County Road 200 South at 8 p.m. on July 24. When they arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
