The Knox school officials are reporting success with the new alternative high school program. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker told the school board last week that 29 students are enrolled in the Redskin Academy. Sixteen of them attend full-time.

Knox School Board Approves Administrator Contracts
The Knox School Board approved several administrators’ contracts Tuesday. “The administrators who are not changing positions will be on, like, status quo contracts until we figure out if we’re going to be able to give salary increases for this year,” Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart explained. “So for those, they will make the same salary as what they made previously, until we settle the teachers’ contract, and then we’ll be able to go back and look at other administrators.”

Knox Kindergarten Countdown Program Gets $15,000 Grant from Hardesty Fund
Knox Elementary School will once again be able to offer two Kindergarten Countdown camps, thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund. That will allow the program to serve 40 incoming kindergartners, according to Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker.
Starke County Children Invited to Block Party
All Starke County children from newborn to kindergarten-aged children are invited to a block party this Thursday, March 15.
Children will visit organized block play stations with informational topics for parents. This event will help children get a sense of the aspects of math, science, literacy, and social and physical skills by engaging in block play. By playing with blocks, early childhood experts say that children learn a host of skills including imagination, self-expression, creativity, self-esteem, and emotional growth.
