North Judson-area residents will soon be asked for input on the town’s park facilities. Town officials are putting together a survey and planning a public engagement session for next month, according to Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe. “Changes you’d like to see, have you used the park at all this last year or in the years previous, those kind of questions,” he says.

Wythogan Skate Park Discussed at Park Plan Public Hearing & Knox Park Board Meeting
The Wythogan Skate Park, which is currently closed and in need of repairs, was discussed during last Monday’s park plan public hearing as well as the regular Knox Park Board meeting.
During the public hearing for the 5-year Master Plan for Knox Parks, Architect Mike Reese with the Troyer Group mentioned the conditions of the skate park, saying that much of the equipment and materials are damaged and in need of upgrades. Culver Town Council Opens Amphitheater Bids
The Culver Town Council members opened bids Tuesday night for the proposed Damore Amphitheater project in the Culver Town Park.
Four bids were received with the lowest bid coming in with a base bid of $131,450. The separation between the lowest bid and the next lowest bid was merely $25. The highest base bid was $189,355.
Mayor Estok Proposes Date for Public Hearing Over Park Plan Draft
Today marks the final day that the draft of the Knox Parks 5-Year Master Plan can be submitted to the Department of Natural Resources in order for the City of Knox to be eligible for funding assistance for the proposed park projects.

Troyer Group Representatives Express Satisfaction With the Amount of Knox Parks Surveys Submitted
The first draft version of the Knox Parks 5-year Master Plan must be submitted to the Department of Natural Resources by January 15th. According to Mayor Dennis Estok, everything is on track to have it submitted on time.
At the last Knox City Council meeting, Mayor Dennis Estok mentioned that more than 250 online surveys were submitted. He said that Troyer Group representatives were very happy that a community of our size was able get that many. Mayor Estok said that shows him that people are interested in the park and what the city is doing.
The exact date for the next public hearing has yet to be established but Troyer Group Landscape Architect Michael Reese stated it will most likely take place in late January or early February. Continue reading
City of Knox Receives a $20,000 Planning Grant
Mayor Dennis Estok told Knox City Council members last week that the city is the recipient of a grant worth $20,000.
The city received the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and according to the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, the planning grant is funded with money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. OCRA says the goal of the program is to encourage communities to plan for long-term community development.
Mayor Estok said that CDBG funds will be spent to cover the cost of services being provided by the Troyer Group, the architecture and planning firm assisting city officials with the construction of the Knox Parks 5-Year Master Plan. Continue reading
Culver Town Council Receives Update on Amphitheater Project
Construction on the Lake Maxinkuckee Amphitheater could be complete by the Memorial Day holiday in 2018.
Mike Reese from the Troyer Group gave the Culver Town Council members a timeline for the bidding process and construction.
Culver Considers Consultant for Stellar Projects
The Culver Town Council members considered a proposal from Mike Reese with the Troyer Group to assist the town in the many aspects required within the town’s designation as a Stellar Community.
Reese said there are a lot of components to the grant and other requirements to be considered.
First Public Hearings Held over Knox Parks 5-Year Master Plan
Despite a fairly small turn out, last night’s public hearing resulted in several notable suggestions for the Knox Parks 5-Year Master Plan. Knox currently has three parks, Wythogan Park, Sandy Acres and Heritage Park and last night it was revealed that a fourth park is being proposed across from Wythogan on U.S. 35.
The public hearing was led by Landscape Architect Mike Reese from the Troyer Group. He explained that the Troyer Group is the firm facilitating the planning process. He said they also helped install the performance stage in Wythogan Park and assisted Starke County with their 5-year master plan. Continue reading
