A dispute over whether the nonprofit Pulaski Health Foundation has to pay property taxes on its Riverwood Commons apartment building appears to have been resolved. Sharon McKinley, the foundation’s executive director, told the Pulaski County Commissioners Monday that the housing development is designed for residents over the age of 55 with low-to-moderate incomes.

Continue readingThe Pulaski County Commissioners will consider bids for a number of different items this morning. They’re expected to choose a bank to handle the county’s cash management services. The county received bids from four local banks last month.
Maintenance Director Mia Salyers will discuss contracts for lawn care and snow removal at various county properties, along with bids for the removal of an ash tree near the Annex Building. Fuel bids will also be discussed, and the commissioners are expected to finalize a contract with Golden Tech for a new email system.
Additionally, the possibility of the county once again helping with the cost of a new van for Pulaski County Human Services will be discussed by the organization’s executive director, Jacki Frain. Meanwhile, a $25,000 expense with a Chicago media outlet will be presented for the commissioners’ approval by Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer. The CDC has tried a few different advertising packages in recent years, in an effort to attract tourists to Pulaski County.
Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff, Sheriff Jeff Richwine, and Assessor Holly VanDerAa are also scheduled to make appearances at this morning’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting. It starts at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the Pulaski County Courthouse.
Pulaski County officials may be looking to restructure their meetings, as some county council members call for more discussion about the courthouse. During Monday’s meeting, Council Member Kathi Thompson again raised the issues of the building’s current needs, as well as future renovation or replacement plans.

Since January, IT Director Matt Voltz has been recommending using Golden Tech, to switch county employees over to the Office 365 email system. The Pulaski County Council will consider several departments’ requests for additional help tonight. Prosecutor Dan Murphy has been asking for another full-time secretary, citing a significant increase in the number of cases being filed, along with the addition of new court programs. A vote on the matter ended in a three-to-three tie last month. Council President Jay Sullivan asked the county commissioners to weigh in, but they sent it back to the council without making a formal recommendation.

A second round of bidding has resulted in some slightly lower prices for planned paving work in Pulaski County. Plans call for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 550 South west of State Road 39 and County Road 600 South from State Road 119 to Base Road. The county is applying for a Community Crossings grant, to cover 75 percent of the cost.

The Medaryville Fire Department’s efforts to build a new fire station have gotten a boost from the Pulaski County Commissioners. The commissioners agreed Monday to let the department apply for a Community Development Block Grant, with the county serving as the pass-through agency.
