Planning Underway for Bridge Replacement on Pulaski County Road 400 East

The 60-year-old bridge on Pulaski County Road 400 East over Mill Creek is set to be replaced. The county commissioners Tuesday approved contracts to allow Jeff Larrison with United Consulting to begin working on the design. “We’ve been looking at this since August of 2017,” Larrison told the commissioners. “This bridge is way up on your priority list.”

Ambulance Bids, Bridge Contract to be Discussed During Pulaski County Commissioners Meeting

Ambulance bids are expected to be discussed during this morning’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting. The EMS Department had planned to purchase a truck this year. County officials have also been exploring the possibility of renting an ambulance or using a lease purchase agreement to spread out the payments.

‘Save the Pulaski County Courthouse Group’ Offers Safety, Security Recommendations

As Pulaski County officials consider long-term facilities plans, the Save the Courthouse group has come up with some recommendations to address safety and security concerns in the meantime. A list of two proposed solutions was presented to the county council Monday. One involves locking all the doors except for one set, and creating a single point of entry staffed by an officer.

Funding arrangements for the recent facilities plan that called for the demolition of the Pulaski County Courthouse were approved by the county council Monday, but not without some debate. Newly-elected council member Kathi Thompson was concerned that the county commissioners didn’t ask for council members’ opinions before hiring an architectural firm.

Pulaski County Commissioners Award Paving, Truck Bids

Pulaski County has picked a paving contractor for several miles of potential road projects. The county commissioners Monday agreed to hire Town & Country Paving for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 550 South west of State Road 39 and County Road 600 South from State Road 119 to Base Road. Town & Country submitted the lowest of three bids, at just under $1.18 million.

New Pulaski Circuit Court Judge Dealing with Unfinished Paperwork, IT Challenges

New Pulaski Circuit Court Judge Mary Welker has a bit of organizing to do, as she settles into her new position. She told the county commissioners Monday that Judge Michael Shurn appears to have left behind some unfinished paperwork when he left office. “There’s 300 to 400 files that are waiting on orders, and I think everybody knows that that was an issue. And as judge, I have two choices. I can just give those files to Judge Shurn and say he has to do them, or our staff can do them, make sure they get done, make sure they get signed, make sure they get filed, and I think that’s the only appropriate way to deal with it because there’s 300 or 400 of them.”

Indiana Landmarks, ‘Save the Courthouse’ Group to Look Into Ways to Preserve Historic Building

The Save the Pulaski County Courthouse group is ready to get to work to find ways to meet the county government’s current needs without tearing down the historic building. That’s what group member Michael Beach told the county commissioners Monday. “We’re going to try to get a little bit more organized, have a little more meetings, and be a little more proactive,” he said, “but it’s not about just saying, ‘Don’t do it,’ and then we walk away. I think we can help.” Beach asked county officials to take time to do a fuller analysis before making any decisions.

Pulaski County Commissioners to Hear from ‘Save the Courthouse’ Representative Tonight

The Pulaski County Commissioners will hear from a representative of the Save the Courthouse group tonight. The group formed after county officials unveiled a proposal last month to demolish the county’s 123-year-old courthouse and replace it with an addition to the Justice Center. At the time, Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston said the plan would address security and accessibility concerns, as well as a number of other issues, at about a third of the cost of renovating and expanding the existing courthouse.

Pulaski County Commissioners Open Paving, Truck Bids

A couple roads in southern Pulaski County may soon be getting upgrades, as part of a potential Community Crossings project. The county received three bids for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 550 South west of State Road 39 and County Road 600 South from State Road 119 to Base Road. The total costs ranged from under $1.18 million to almost $1.33 million.
