Starke County Commissioners Seeking Health Board Nominee
The Starke County Commissioners are looking to fill a health board vacancy. Nurse Taylor Davis resigned. By law, her replacement must be a health care professional and a Democrat. Prospective nominees can contact the Starke County Auditor’s Office at 574-772-9101 for more information.
Funding Could Soon be an Issue for the Starke County Health Board
When WKVI asked Starke County Health Board member, Brenda Stanojevic, about funding, she said that Health Officer Dr. Theresa Alexander told the Board that funding will be a problem, but they should make it through.
The question was raised because the fee for a septic permit has decreased from $200 to $60. Dr. Alexander said she going to a meeting to find out ways to keep the office solvent.
Dr. Alexander said, “At some point, funding is going to raise its ugly head and we’re going to have to keep on top of it.”
Commissioner Davis Resigns from Starke County Health Board
After only one meeting, Starke County Commissioner, Jennifer Davis, has resigned from the seat she was named to on the Starke County Health Board. It was determined that the position she was named to was not one that requires a Commission representative. That being the case, Davis was named to be the Commission’s liaison on the Health Board, but not a voting member.
The seat she was named to was the one held by Bob Howard until December 31st, 2010. It will now have to be reappointed by the Commissioners.
Starke County Health Board to Consider Combining Envrionmentalist and Food Inspector Duties
The Starke County Health Board is considering combining the Environmentalist position with the Food Inspector’s duties. Health Nurse Frank Lynch brought the suggestion to the Board last week.
David Kesvormas, who had been selected to do food inspections on a contract basis, was in attendance and said he would not be willing to be considered for the expanded position. The Board made no decision, but would be willing to look at the job description before deciding. Until that time, the Board is willing to consider Kesvormas for the Food Inspector’s position on a contractual basis.
Starke County Health Board Reorganizes; Discusses Meeting Agenda Items
Deb Hansen is the newly elected President of the Starke County Health Board. Dr. Joe Bartush was elected Vice President and Brenda Stanojevic was elected as the Secretary.
Most of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the Food Inspector’s position. David Kesvormas was in attendance. He was to begin duties soon as the Food Inspector, but the contract he produced for the Starke County Health official, Dr. Teresa Alexander, expired December 31st, 2010.
Starke County Health Board to Meet Tonight
The Starke County Health Board will meet tonight in their first meeting of the new year. This will be the first meeting for new members Bev Fraine and Jennifer Davis. There will be election of officers for the year and a discussion of the retirement of Environmentalist David Singleton.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Health Office in the Starke County Courthouse.
Dr. Walter Fritz Denies Asking for Starke County Health Board Members’ Removal
WKVI ran a story quoting Bob Howard, former Starke County Health Board President, that he suspected Dr. Walter Fritz had requested that the Commissioners not name him back on the Board for another term.
Dr. Fritz denied asking for his removal when questioned by WKVI. He did say that he kept in touch with the Commissioners during his many years as the County’s Health Officer, discussing many topics.
The new Health Officer is Dr. Theresa Alexander who began her duties January 1st.
Two Replaced on Starke County Health Board; Former Board President Issues Statement
Last week, the Starke County Commissioners replaced two Starke County Health Board members, Bob Howard and Madge Whickcar. Howard, as previously reported, had served for ten years, eight of them as President. Named to replace the pair were Jennifer Davis and Beverly Fraine. Both were Democrat appointments.
Starke County Commissioners Make Board Appointments
Bob Howard has been replaced as a member of the Starke County Health Board. Howard had served for 10 years on the Board, 8 of them as President. Although he reapplied for another term on the Board, the Starke County Commissioners named Jennifer Davis and Beverly Fraine for the two positions that were available.
