The Culver-Union Township Fire Department still needs another $100,000 for a new aerial truck. After finalizing specifications, Fire Chief Terry Wakefield says the department has settled on a 101-foot ladder truck. “We thought we wanted a basket,” he told the town council during a work session Tuesday. “We kind of went away from getting a basket. What we did was we came up with a vehicle that fits in our station, that we won’t have to alter the height or width of the doors.”

Back in September, the school board hired architectural firm Schmidt Associates to develop plans for future construction, after the firm had previously completed a facilities study for the corporation. Representatives will give an update to the school board, during a work session tonight at 6:00 at the Knox Schools Administrative Office.
The Culver Town Council members will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET where they will gather information about an Eagle Scout project in the Culver-Union Township Park. They will also consider a Fall Fest special event request and get an update on projects within the town’s Stellar Communities Designation Program.
The Winamac Park Board is looking to clarify who’s responsible for what, when it comes to the maintenance of the Town Park. Board member Jon Chapman raised the issue during Thursday’s meeting, noting that there are a lot of moving parts, when it comes to running the park, “Some of which are handled by Power from the Past, some of which are handled by [Park Manager] Dave [DeLorenzo], some of which are handled by Dave with help from the town, some of which are handled by other parties. Dave asked from the time we became a board for kind of a list of what the priority things are, and we really haven’t ever done that,” Chapman said.

The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission will continue working on updates to the county’s wind turbine regulations tonight. The goal is to come up with a list of proposed changes to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance, to address concerns over a proposed wind farm. But after multiple meetings, the plan commission still hasn’t created anything solid enough to present for a public hearing.
Updating Pulaski County’s wind turbine regulations will take a little longer than county officials had hoped. The advisory plan commission hoped to narrow down some proposed regulations during a work session Monday, but after discussing the issue for over two hours, many questions remained.
The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission will begin working on updates to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance tonight. Concerns about a possible wind farm development have led county officials to consider reviewing the county’s zoning regulations. Pulaski County has recently hired an attorney who specializes in wind energy to help with the process.
Pulaski County employees can expect more consistency and documentation on the county’s salary policies. That was the consensus reached during a joint session of the county council and commissioners Wednesday on the county’s salary matrix. The system is designed to give county employees a set schedule when it comes to pay raises.
Pulaski County officials hope to put an end to the confusion surrounding the county’s salary matrix, during a joint work session next week. The idea was raised during Monday’s county council and commissioners meetings. Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff and Sheriff Jeff Richwine again asked for guidance on a couple ongoing salary issues, but the council’s matrix committee still hadn’t met yet to discuss them. Council member Scott Hinkle suggested that the discussion take place with the full council and board of commissioners, instead.
As the Oregon-Davis School Board considers the school corporation’s financial future, one challenge school officials will have to address is declining enrollment. Since the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment has dropped from 713.5 students down to 555. Based on kindergarten enrollment trends, that number’s expected to drop down to 511 over the next five years.
