With Election Day approaching, here are some reminders about who is eligible to vote in Indiana.
A citizen is eligible to vote in Indiana if all of these requirements are met:
According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, there may be some misconceptions about people who are not allowed to vote. The ACLU states that the following people can vote in Indiana if the above conditions are met:
In the state of Indiana, voters must present a photo ID in order to vote. In accordance with state law, your ID must
In most cases, an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID, or U.S. Passport is sufficient ID for voting.
Due to changes this year in state law, IDs from state colleges and universities will no longer be accepted.
Those who are unable or unwilling to present an ID that meets those requirements may still cast what is called a provisional ballot. If you cast a provisional ballot, you have until noon 10 days after the election to follow up with your county’s election board and either provide necessary documentation, or confirm one of the law’s exemptions applies to you.
Exemptions may apply for those who cannot afford an ID, those with a religious objection to being photographed, and those who live in state-licensed facilities that serve as their precinct polling place.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026 and polls will be open from 6am to 6pm local time.
