Concerns about the safety of the Bass Lake Beach House patio have led Starke County officials to look into repairing it themselves. The patio was the topic of a heated discussion during Tuesday’s County Park Board meeting. Board member Debbie Mix said the facility’s operator, Callahan Development, LLC, still hasn’t made repairs that have been discussed for several months or longer.

The Pulaski County Council is not likely to address issues with its local income tax structure in time to have an impact on the 2019 budget. A sudden drop in revenues from the “LIT Levy Freeze” tax was brought to the county council’s attention in September of 2017. In the months that followed, there were some discussions about working with an accounting firm to address the issues, but little progress was made.
Starke County Park Board to Get Updates on Bass Lake Beach and Campground, County Forest
The conditions of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground will be discussed by the Starke County Park Board tonight. During last month’s meeting, it was reported that glacial stone had been installed around the beach, and Assistant Manager Larry Clarich was getting ready to replenish the beach with new sand. He was also working on repairs to the beach house patio.
Ora Man Arrested at Plymouth Walmart for Theft, Possession of a Legend Drug

A report of a theft at the Plymouth Walmart led to the arrest of an Ora man, but not before police reportedly found drugs in his possession. Plymouth Police say that around 10:00 Thursday night, they got a call of a theft in progress. When officers got to Walmart, they say they found Charles E. Jensen, 45, cutting items out of packages. Police took him into custody and reportedly found him to be in possession of a legend drug.

Pulaski County Council to Consider Additional Appropriations for Part-Time Pay
The Pulaski County Council will be taking steps tonight to make sure money is available to pay part-time employees. A shortage of full-time EMS employees at the beginning of the year took a huge toll on the department’s part-time budget, according to EMS Director Bryan Corn. “Staffing was kind of rough there for a while,” he told the county commissioners last week. “We had quite a few full-time openings that we had to utilize part-time staff to fill that, to essentially keep the 911 trucks going, keep the 911 trucks in service.”

Work Wrapping Up on Francesville’s New Quiet Space
The Francesville Town Park’s new quiet space is about 99-percent done, according to Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett. The new quiet space at the south end of the park features a bench, pergola, and landscaping, to create a serene environment. It was created with the help of a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Pulaski County, along with several private donations.
