Discussions on proposed upgrades to the Bass Lake Beach are expected to continue later this month. The Starke County Park Board is calling on the operator of the facility, Callahan Development, LLC, to stabilize the seawall surrounding the beach house patio.
Winamac Town Council to Consider Public Input about Golf Cart Ordinance
Winamac resident Nora Schambers went before Winamac Town Council members Monday night asking them to consider amending the golf cart ordinance to allow small children ride in golf carts.
In Section 3-d of Winamac’s current golf cart ordinance it states that ‘no children under 48 lbs that require a child safety restraint seat are permitted to ride on a motorized cart’. Schambers asked the council to consider replacing that section with a rule that could potentially read ‘parents or guardians will use discretion and assume all liabilities associated with the injuries sustained by a child occupant under the weight of 48 lbs during the operation of a motorized cart on public roadways in the Town of Winamac’. La Porte Police Department Participates in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign resulted in 18 citations and 7 arrests by the La Porte Police Department over a 25-day-period. Approximately 220 law-enforcement agencies across the state had overtime patrols supported through federal highway safety funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
La Porte Police Captain Pat Hemphill said these extra enforcement efforts help save the lives of impaired drivers, their passengers and others out on the road. He stated that officers in the La Porte Police Department are committed year-round to keeping roads as safe as possible. Continue reading

Pulaski County Human Services apparently will not be able to buy a new van, after all. The county council failed to finalize the local share of the funding Monday. They had been considering the issue since April.

Culver Town Council to Meet Tonight
The Culver Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight on an ordinance that establishes the Culver Economic Development Commission. The three-member commission will be formed to consider a residential tax abatement in the proposed workforce housing development. One appointment will be made by the town council president, one from the town council and one from the county council.
Enrollment Increase Anticipated at Eastern Pulaski Schools
The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation expects a slight increase in enrollment. The official count isn’t until Friday, but Superintendent Dan Foster says the corporation’s preliminary enrollment figure is 1,285. Continue reading
Survey to be Conducted at Veterans Memorial Park Following Winamac Park Board Decision Last Week
During the Winamac Park Board meeting last week, the board reviewed a questionnaire that was provided to the public about potential renovations to Veteran’s Memorial Park. Approximately 50 responses were received and though the majority of the public voted to do nothing and leave it as is, the next most popular response was to add a bench, a sign and a potential an artillery piece.
Park Board President Courtney Poor told the board that even though the ‘do nothing option’, when you combined the other three options, there was an obvious public desire for there to be some kind of change implemented. Continue reading

One Dead, Two Injured in Pulaski County Accident
A three-car accident in Star City claimed the life of a Logansport man in Pulaski County on Sunday evening.
Indiana State Police troopers were called to 6274 U.S. 35 in Star City where a preliminary investigation found that a vehicle driven by Bradyn Bordenet, 20, of Lafayette crossed the center line on U.S. 35. He was reportedly driving south in the north bound lane, forcing a 1930 Ford Model A off the road. Police say Larry Williams, 67, of Knox, lost control of the Model A and rolled approximately three times.
