The Culver Town Council members will open bids for the Sand Hill Farms workforce housing development project in March.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained to the council members last week that Engineer Mark Sullivan will have design plans ready for bidders on Wednesday, Feb. 28. A notice will be published so bidders have time to get them in by the deadline.
The West Central School Board met in special session on Thursday and discussed eLearning days.
Superintendent Don Street said the corporation utilizes eLearning days after all snow makeup days are spent.
The first Knox Event Planning Committee meeting of the year will be held this week.
At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Dennis Estok announced that the committee will meet to discuss some of the different events scheduled for later this year including movies in the park, community concerts and the fireworks show.

The Starke County Council will meet tonight where the members will discuss an appropriation request from the Starke County Economic Development Foundation and sign a KIRPC appointment.
The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. CT followed by the Starke County Commissioners meeting at 6 p.m. CT.
Eastern Pulaski Elementary School students have made a big impact over the years, when it comes to raising money for heart health. The school board got an update last week on the Jump Rope for Heart program from PE teacher Denise Parcel.

The West Central School Board members met Thursday night to award a base bid for work on the middle school roof and auxiliary gym.
Superintendent Don Street said Adam Weesner from architecture and engineering firm Barton Coe Villamaa presented the base bids for these projects.
A local vocational training cooperative’s efforts to get state grant funding have come up short.
Winamac Town Council members voted unanimously to appoint JoLynn Johnston to the open Winamac Economic Development Committee seat when they met Monday night.
Additionally, members discussed the open democratic seat that’s still available on the Winamac Planning Commission.

The Culver Town Council members reviewed an interlocal agreement between the town, Marshall County and Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt.
It was the same document presented to the county commissioners last week for approval. Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained then that the agreement allows DeWitt to assist Culver with needs during county business hours on an annual basis. The fee was increased to $3,000 to bring it in line with the same services to the Town of Argos.
Some Winamac High School students will soon get some firsthand science lessons with a pair of upcoming field trips. Chemistry II and Environmental Science students will be visiting the Cook Nuclear Plant in Stevensville, Michigan.
Discussion continues about moving Pulaski Circuit Court out of the County Courthouse and into the Justice Center. The move is seen as a cheaper alternative to installing and staffing a security checkpoint in the courthouse.
The Eastern Pulaski School Board approved amendments to a couple school policies this week. Superintendent Dan Foster says the policy regarding the use of seclusion and restraints got a minor update. “What that was is mostly for special education students, who sometimes pose a threat to themselves and/or others, if they become violent,” he explains. The Knox City Council received a financial update from Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston this week.
On Tuesday night, Houston informed the council that the City of Knox is in pretty good financial shape since they had more money at the end of 2017 than they started with at the beginning of the year.
Later, Houston explained that at the start of 2017, the city had around $3,994,645 and it ended the year with $4,146,321. That’s a net gain of $151,676 or a 3.8 percent increase. Continue reading
The potential construction of wind turbines in Pulaski County is drawing concerns from area residents. In the past several months, a number of filings have been made with the Federal Aviation Administration for possible wind turbines in the Francesville and Star City areas. A complaint about the proposal was brought to the Pulaski County Commissioners last week.
Winamac Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger proposed updating the town’s ordinance book during the town council meeting Monday night.
Berger explained that American Legal Publishing is the company that takes care of updating their code of ordinances book. She informed the council members that the last update cost around $3,000 and took place back in July of 2016.
Since about 18 months has passed, she asked council members if they’d like to update the book again. Continue reading
Three projects that will be funded with grant money from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently were reviewed by Culver Stellar Community members and Shannon McLeod from Priority Project Resources last week. Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the town council members this week that the overview of the applications for those projects are due today that include plans for the Culver Beach Lodge, Cavalier Park and Lake Max programming. The applications will undergo state and environmental review and historical preservation aspects.
The Pulaski County Commissioners have approved the purchase of a used tractor for the County Highway Department. During Monday’s joint session with the county council, the commissioners voted to let Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff buy the tractor from GreenMark Equipment for $34,750, after trade-in.
