Since putting our website up in August of 2009, we have received over one million hits. As of March 3rd, the number was actually 1,111,383.
We started with 25,000-41,000 hits a month until July of 2010 when we went over the 50,000 monthly count. In February 2010, we had 160,037 hits for our largest monthly total. This could be contributed to inclement weather and visits to our closings and delays page.

76 individuals were arrested last Saturday after police received an anonymous tip of an illegal cock fighting operation at a residence in North Judson. Eleven face felony charges of Animal Fighting Contest, while others face a misdemeanor charge of Attending an Animal Fight Contest. Four of those charged with felonies remain on hold in the Starke County Jail as they have been identified as illegal immigrants.
Charlie White, who campaigned at a huge Republican rally last summer in Knox, and was subsequently elected as Secretary of State, was indicted on 7 felony counts yesterday. The felony counts include Voter Fraud, Perjury and Theft. He was released from the Hamilton County Jail after being booked and posting a $10,000 bond. If convicted of the felony charges, he would have to give up his office.

South Central senior basketball member Stephanie Balon has chosen to attend Purdue Calumet to continue her basketball career. Balon was the leading scorer for the Satellites this season and will look to continue her successful career at the collegiate level.
WKVI radio checked in yesterday with Representative Nancy Dembowski, who has been holed up in the Comfort Inn in Urbana, Illinois.
The Representative, along with others in the Democrat House, have been in Urbana since last Tuesday, February 22nd. Their action has closed down work at the House on bills the Democrats oppose.
Dembowski was quick to refute an off-the-cuff comment attributed to Governor Mitch Daniels that while the Republicans were working, the Democrats were enjoying sessions in a “hot tub.”
The mother of Republican District 20 State Representative Thomas Demody, of LaPorte, passed away Tuesday, March 1st. Visitation is today at the Essling Funeral Home in LaPorte from 3:00-8:00 p.m. CT, and Friday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. CT. Services for Jessie Dermody will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. CT at St. Peter Catholic Church.
Dermody represents LaPorte County and a portion of Pulaski County in our listening area.
The greatest season in Culver Community High School history came to an end at the Elkhart Semi-State losing to Fort Wayne Bishop Luers 47-43. The Lady Cavs went punch for punch with the Lady Knights, but couldn’t get over the hump as their season came to an end with a record of 25-2.
Knox celebrated senior night Friday, February 25th. In all there were 35 athletes, cheerleaders, and band members honored.
A number of scholarships are being offered to students in several health fields by I.U. Health- LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte Hospital Foundation, and LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary.
The Plymouth Police Department evacuated residents this morning in a three block radius of Pennsylvania and Liberty Streets in Plymouth due to a gas leak.
The Plymouth Fire Department, along with NIPSCO and the Plymouth and Argos Police Departments investigated and secured the scene. The gas leak has been contained. Plymouth Fire Chief, Andy Metsker, told WKVI that the gas leak occurred after a roof collapsed on an old storage building at the corner of Pennsylvania and Liberty Streets. About 70 residents in a three block radius were evacuated as a precaution and taken to a nearby church.
The leak was discovered around 2:00 a.m. ET this morning.
Due to the gas leak, Plymouth and St. Michaels Schools will operate on a two hour delay.
On Sunday, February 20th, just before 8:00 p.m. ET, Plymouth Police officers were called to the 2500 block of North Michigan Street after a call came in concerning a drowning at the residence.
According to police, a family member was giving 15-month-old Landen Sarabia a bath. The family member went to get a towel and was gone for approximately 15 seconds. When the person returned, the child was face down in the tub. CPR was administered at the scene. The child was taken to the hospital. The child died in Memorial Hospital in South Bend on Friday, February 25th.
The case will be presented to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Congratulations to Dan Heminger who is the winner of February’s Time Capsule contest on WKVI. Tom Berg and Lenny Dessauer drew Dan’s name live on the air Monday morning. Dan wasn’t quite awake when they called, but he was excited once the news set in. Dan won $200 and it was as easy as dialing 772-7600 and guessing the correct answer in the Time Capsule contest.
