North Judson Police Department

Incidents:

9/23/17 A homeowner in the 500 block of W. Vine Street reported that someone entered the home while they were gone using an unlocked door and stole a tablet and two older family lamps.

9/23/17 A homeowner in the 200 block of Silver Street reported one tire of a vehicle was punctured multiple times destroying the tire.

9/23/17 A traffic stop conducted by Officer Vanderheof led to the arrest of two male subjects. A 58-year-old male and a 22-year-old male were both charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a legend drug, and possession of marijuana.

9/24/17 A patron of North Judson Storage reported that two unconnected units they were renting were broken into recently. The items were part of an estate. Some items of note that are missing would be older glue together models like hot rods and other vehicles.

9/27/17 A woman came on station to report a violation of a protection order that was in place. A report was generated and forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.

9/27/17 The manager at North Judson Storage was attempting to make contact with an unknown person at the units that were recently broken into. At this time the male subject jumped into an older black Ford Pickup truck with extended cab and sped away. Subject described by witnesses as approx.. 5’8” tall and 180 pounds. Blonde hair and goatee.

10/1/17 North Judson Police K9 Sgt. Beishuizen and Marshal Fisher were assisted by Knox Police K9 Officer Chad Dulin and Merrillville K9 Officer Vasel with a K9 sweep of the North Judson San Pierre High School. No narcotics were discovered on the property.
10/1/17 A battery report was taken from an incident in the Dollar General parking lot. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.

North Judson Police Department

8/27/17- A drive off was reported from Good to Go gas station. After Chief Deputy Thomas reviewed camera footage, the subject was identified and contacted. Payment was then received by Good to Go.

8/30/17- A vehicle was entered into on the 300 block of Franklin Street where stereo equipment was removed and stolen. After speaking with several witnesses, the items were found abandoned in the area. The Indiana State Police lab is reviewing for possible fingerprint matches that were discovered. Investigation pending.

8/31/17- Criminal mischief was reported by Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum. Someone had placed railroad spikes and tie plates on and near the main track. Items were found during routine inspections.

8/31/17- Chief Deputy Thomas responded to a request by Porter County to check on a tip they received. Further investigation revealed a felony warrant subject hiding at a home in the 300 block of Franklin Street. Subject was taken into custody on felony warrants.

9/01/17- Officer Simpson spotted a wanted subject near Talmer Ave. and took him into custody without incident.

9/2/17- Officer Simpson spotted a wanted subject on Lane St. and took him into custody without incident.

9/6/17- Officer Simpson conducted a traffic stop which led to the arrest of a wanted subject out of Texas.

9/7/17- Officer Simpson spotted a wanted subject near Lane St. and took him into custody on warrants out of Pulaski County.

9/7/17- Officer Simpson was dispatched to a fight in progress on Cherry Street. Upon further investigation, a male subject was taken into custody on a warrant out of Porter County.

9/8/17- Chief Deputy Thomas was contacted by State Parole to assist in a home check near the 3000 block of 625 South. During the investigation, a female subject was taken into custody for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

9/8/17- Chief Deputy Thomas responded to the North Judson Post Office in reference to harassment and possible criminal charges with the Post Office being the victim. At this time the case is turned over to Federal Postal Inspectors.

9/10/17- A drive off was reported from Good to Go gas station. After review of camera footage a suspect was identified and the case is still open.

9/10/17- Theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported on the 300 E. block of Weninger St.

8/21/17 A Koontz Lake resident told police that someone stole electronics from his work van after breaking into it.

8/21/17 A Walkerton resident reported her ID and bank cards stolen from her unlocked car.

8/21/17 Police were notified that items were found by the side of the road on E. South Ave in Walkerton. The items may be from vehicle break-ins from the previous evening.

8/21/17 A Knox resident reported the theft of a license plate off his vehicle.

8/21/17 A Koontz Lake resident told police that some unknown person broke into his truck.

8/21/17 A Koontz Lake resident reported that unknown person broke into a vehicle and shed on the property.

8/21/17 A Knox resident told police that cash was stolen from his vehicle.

8/22/17 A Walkerton resident reported two suspicious packages delivered to her address.

8/23/17 A resident wanted to file a report of a stolen guitar.

8/24/17 A gun was found in the roadway in the area of 450 E. and U.S. 35 in Knox.

8/25/17 Officers responded to an accident on 150 E. between Toto Road and 400 South in Knox. The caller advised he rolled his dump truck, but he is not injured.

8/23/17 Jessica Vanblaricom, 29, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of residential entry and domestic battery.

8/25/17 Jordan Prater, 19, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a schedule I, II, III or IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, visiting a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia.

8/25/17 Billy Minix, 22, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of driving while suspended (prior), possession of paraphernalia, operating while intoxicated (prior), unlawful possession or use of a legend drug or precursor, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of methamphetamine, and maintaining a common nuisance.

8/26/17 Pitor Lacek, 25, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle for use as a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

8/27/17 Zachary Puckett, 32, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of criminal confinement and domestic battery.

8/27/17 David McKee, 38, of La Porte, arrested on a preliminary charge of operator never licensed.

North Judson Police Department

8/1/17- Officer Simpson conducted a traffic stop on Luken Street that lead to a warrant arrest.

8/1/17- Officer Simpson stopped a subject he knew to have warrants and took him into custody.

8/3/17- Officer Thomas conducted a traffic stop that led to an arrest for driving while suspended.

8/4/17- Marshal Fisher responded to a single vehicle crash on US 421. Only minor injuries were reported from the vehicle leaving the roadway. Driver was charged for driving while suspended.

8/4/17- Officer Simpson and Stoll conducted a traffic stop that led to several charges. After the investigation was complete the driver was charged with Habitual Traffic Violator, Dealing in Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana. Over 30 grams of the substance was collected as evidence.

8/6/17- Officer Simpson conducted a traffic stop that led to an arrest for driving while suspended.

8/7/17- Officer Thomas responded to a burglary that had occurred at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and School. Investigation is ongoing.

8/8/17- Officer Thomas responded to a suicidal subject on the 500 E block of St. Rd. 10. Subject was detained and transported to a mental health facility.

8/9/17- Officer Simpson responded to the True Vine Church on St. Rd. 39 south of town where someone had broken in through a window and stole change from a collection area.

8/11/17- Officer Thomas responded to a burglary call on the 100 block of Sycamore St. The owner had been gone for several days and returned to find TV’s and some jewelry missing. Investigation is ongoing.

8/12/17- Officer Lopez responded to a battery incident that occurred on Beech Street. Victim went to the hospital with serious injuries. Officers Thomas and Lopez were assisted by Starke County Sheriff’s Dept. in taking the subject into custody after a 1 hour standoff in the 4000 block of 100 West.

8/15/17- Officer Simpson responded to a call of a male subject walking in the middle of the road on State Road 10 east of North Judson. The subject was under the influence of alcohol but under 21. Transportation arrangements were made and the subject was cited for Illegal Possession of alcohol and Public Intoxication.

8/21/17- Officer Simpson responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of Keller Avenue. During the investigation one male subject was arrested for an active warrant.

8/21/17- Chief Deputy Thomas responded to a call for an unwanted subject. One adult female was arrested for trespass after she had been given a warning in the prior weeks to stay away from the property.

8/22/17- Chief Deputy Thomas responded to a minor traffic accident in the high school parking lot.

8/23/17- Marshal Fisher took a report of several counterfeit $100 bills that made their way to the bank from local businesses as deposits. The bills were tested with markers and passed, however they were still found to be counterfeit. Federal Investigators are working the case at this time.

8/24/17- Officer Simpson conducted a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a wanted subject out of Pulaski County.

8/24/17- Marshal Fisher responded to a disabled vehicle on St. Rd. 10 on the east edge of North Judson. A wheel on a truck fell off and the truck was obstructing the roadway. Marshal Fisher assisted in clearing the roadway.

8/25/17- Chief Deputy Thomas responded to a car vs. motorcycle accident in the 300 E. block of Talmer Ave. No injuries were reported after a car backed out of a parking spot onto Talmer Ave. and struck a passing motorcycle.

7/24/17 Hunter McCoy, 20, of Grovertown, arrested on preliminary charges of illegal possession/consumption of alcohol, theft, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, dealing in marijuana, carrying a handgun without a permit, and maintaining a common nuisance.

7/28/17 Jamie Kay Beam, 28, of Argos, arrested on an active warrant.

7/29/17 Timothy Barnett, 47, of Knox, arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, intimidation (two counts), resisting law enforcement, and battery to a public safety official.

North Judson Police Department:

Incidents:
7/17/17- A minor traffic accident occurred in the parking lot of Skips Garage on Talmer Ave. No injuries.

7/18/17- A minor traffic accident occurred in the parking lot of Burger King on Talmer Ave. No injuries

7/18/17- Family members checking on a male subject found him deceased at his home on Collins Street. Police and Medics arrived on scene as well as the coroner. No foul play is suspected.

7/19/17- A resident on the 200 block of Leslie Street reported criminal mischief at his property stating that someone had thrown debris over his fence and into his pool. The debris was likely tocause damage to the pool.

7/20/17- A thief made light work of some unlocked vehicles on the north side of town during the overnight hours as several vehicles that were unlocked were entered. Mostly quick items of opportunity were taken including change. Police remind citizens to always lock your vehicles.

7/20/17- After initiating a traffic stop, a vehicle residing on the 200 block of Garden Street was impounded due to false and fictitious registration. The owner was cited and advised the vehicle will be placed on a hold until proper registration is acquired.

7/22/17- Officer Simpson picked up a warrant subject from the 500 block of Talmer Avenue.

7/23/17- Marshal Fisher was summoned to help an elderly male subject who appeared disoriented. The male subject was from Michigan and thought he was in Alabama. After some investigation, Marshal Fisher contacted family in Florida who flew up to assist. Marshal Fisher assisted in arrangements at the local motel lodging and for food until family arrived.

7/24/17- A battery report was filed that occurred at the American Legion. Investigation ongoing.

7/25/17- Officers responded to two male subjects peering in windows of an occupied residence in the 2500 block of 500 South. Subjects were driving a dark blue or black pickup. When officers arrived the subjects were already gone.

7/26/17- Officers responded to an 11 year old boy who had fallen from his bicycle in the 5000 block of 350 West. A citizen called after driving up on the boy who appeared to be seizing laying next to his bike. Medics arrived and evaluated the juvenile while the officer tracked down the mother. After being evaluated the mother signed a refusal to have the boy transported to the hospital. It was determined the boys book bag rope was caught in the spokes as he was riding causing him to wreck.

7/26/17- An officer responded to a 3rd party calling about a suicidal subject. Upon further investigation, Officer Simpson met with a subject who felt he wanted to harm himself. Officer Simpson later transported the subject to the hospital under an emergency detention order to be evaluated and to get the help they need.

7/27/17- Officer Beishuizen conducted a routine traffic stop that led to a wanted subject from Porter County being arrested.

7/19/17 Officers investigated a report of a battery of two inmates, Roland Minix and Allen Moore, while incarcerated in the Starke County Jail.

7/19/17 A resident in the 8200 block of E. 400 N. reported the theft of guns.

7/19/17 A two-vehicle accident was reported on U.S. 30 at the Grovertown Truck Stop.

7/19/17 Two cases of sexual misconduct with a minor were reported to police. The incidents are under investigation.

7/22/17 Starke County EMS Medic 5 workers were checking on a limb in the road when a car sideswiped the ambulance.

7/11/17 A Knox woman told police that she received a phone call from a person claiming to be from the Sacramento, California Police Department to tell her that her grandson was in jail and needed bond money. The victim said she had already given him $4,000 and now needs $10,000 more.

7/13/17 A North Judson resident reported the theft of the miniature horse.

7/13/17 A Grovertown resident reported fraudulent charges on a debit card.

7/13/17 A call came into the Starke County Sheriff’s Office about a man slumped over the steering wheel with the right turn signal on at Division Road and 1100 East in Knox.

7/13/17 An accident was reported on Range Road and 500 North. A car driven by 28-year-old Chad Myers of Hanna hit a pole and pole is smoking. The Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department responded to the scene.

7/14/17 A resident arrived on station to report identity theft incident.

7/14/17 A caller requested an officer in the area of the old glove factory on Cleveland Street as a person is dumping trash.

7/14/17 Emergency responders were called to a two vehicle accident in the area of Park and Woodland in Knox.

7/14/17 A North Judson resident reported the theft of a hay trailer.

7/14/17 Emergency responders were called to Toto Road and 300 East for a personal injury accident.

7/15/17 A resident called police to report an accident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. An ambulance wasn’t needed.

7/15/17 A resident on Toto Road asked police to check some items in the woods by her house. She is unsure if it’s drug related.

7/16/17 A North Judson woman was involved in a single vehicle accident. The vehicle was upside down in a ditch.

Arrests:
7/11/17 Ryan William Phelps, 25, of Knox was arrested on unlisted charges.

North Judson Police Department

7/8/17 – While on patrol Officer Simpson noticed a wanted subject riding in a vehicle. After the stop was made, the male subject was arrested on his valid warrant and the female driver was arrested for OVWI possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe and driving while suspended prior.

7/9/17 – A disturbance call in the 5800 block of 250 West brought officers to the area which concluded with the arrest of three male subjects for illegal possession/consumption of alcohol by minors.

7/9/17 – While on patrol Officer Simpson spotted a wanted subject walking on Central Avenue. After further investigation, the wanted subject was taken into custody on his active warrant for possession of marijuana.

7/10/17 – While on patrol Chief Deputy Thomas witnessed a traffic infraction. Upon further investigation, the female driver had a suspended prior license status. The vehicle was impounded and the female was charged with Driving While Suspended Prior.

7/10/17 – Chief Deputy Thomas was dispatched to American Oak reference a battery that had taken place. Upon further investigation, a 15-year-old male had been battered by a 47-year-old male. Both were employees of the company. The adult male was taken into custody on charges of battery.

7/12/17 – A fraud report was taken by North Judson Police involving accounts that were opened nearly a year ago. Complainant stated they never opened an account and have never received bills.

7/12/17 – Officer Simpson was conducting radar patrol on Arlington Avenue and stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon further investigation, the female driver was taken into custody for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated with a minor present. The male passenger was taken into custody for two active warrants. The juvenile present was picked up at the scene from a family member.

7/15/17 – Chief Deputy Thomas responded to a possible overdose call on Arlington Avenue. A male subject was found responsive and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

7/3/17 – A resident in the 7000 block of S. State Road 10 in Knox requested to speak to an officer regarding loud music and speeding vehicles in and out of the Honey Hole. The complaintant said it’s been an ongoing problem.

7/3/17 – The Knox-Center Township Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 4100 block of E. 200 S. in Knox. The North Judson-Wayne Township and Hamlet Fire Departments responded along with Starke County EMS.

7/3/17 – Starke County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a two car accident at 700 E. and 400 S. in Knox.

7/3/17 – A resident in the 100 block of W. William Howard Drive in Knox complained that her neighbor’s visitors have had a dog locked inside a car and it has been barking for 20 minutes.

7/3/17 – A domestic disturbance was reported in the 7600 block of N. Kickapoo Rd. in Koontz Lake.

7/4/17 – An accidental shooting was reported in the 11500 block of E. South Ave. in Walkerton. The victim reportedly was shot in the foot. The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

7/4/17 – The owner of the U Lock Storage in North Judson reported vandalism.

7/4/17 – A two vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of 400 N. and 600 E. in Hamlet.

7/4/17 – A resident notified police of drug trash in the 700 block of N. 800 E. in Knox.

7/4/17 – A resident told police that she ran out of gas alongside U.S. 30 and and 750 E. and the driver of a car drove up and took her purse and her phone.

7/4/17 – Officers responded to a report of a car in the ditch on Toto Road and 500 W. in Knox.

7/5/17 – A Walkerton resident reported the theft of fishing equipment.

7/6/17 – A North Judson resident told police that her mailbox was damaged by kids with bats riding on dirt bikes or 4-wheelers.

7/6/17 – Starke County police and emergency responders were called to a car vs. train accident on U.S. 30 and County Road 1100 E.

7/6/17 – A North Judson resident reported the theft of a cell phone.

7/7/17 – A North Judson resident told police that some unknown person blew up his mailbox with fireworks.

7/7/17 – A two-vehicle property damage accident was reported on State Road 10 and 350 E. in Knox.

7/7/17 – A single vehicle property damage accident was reported on State Road 10 between 700 E. and 750 E. in the Winamac area.

7/8/17 – A resident in the 4300 block of S. 200 E. in Knox reported the theft of a farm implement.

7/8/17 – Emergency responders were called to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 1100 E. and U.S. 30 in Grovertown.

7/9/17 – Police were notified of a vehicle on its side in a ditch in the area of 1000 E. North of 800 N. in Grovertown.

7/9/17 – A resident reported a small unoccupied fire burning next to the bike trail in between Range Road and 700 South. The caller kicked dirt on the fire to put it out.

7/9/17 – A two-vehicle accident was reported on State Road 8 and 800 East in Knox.
