Public Hearing over 2018 Budget Held During Knox City Council Meeting

Knox City Council held a public hearing over the 2018 budget during their meeting Tuesday night. If you missed it, don’t worry, the budget can be seen online through the Indiana Gateway for Government Units website. Click here to access the 2018 Budget for the City of Knox.

During the hearing, Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston went over specific items on the notice to the taxpayer. He explained that the max civil levy is the maximum amount of money that is allowed to be collected from property taxes. The estimated max civil levy is $1,567,438. He also described that the tax cap, the amount of money not allowed to be collected based on the classification of particular properties, is $221,292. The estimated general fund is $1,563,107. North Judson Council Considers Changes to Bylaws, Schedules Budget Meeting

The Naegeli court reporting Council is looking to make some changes to the way it operates. Most significantly, members are considering the addition of a council vice-president, according to Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins. She says that currently, if the council president is absent, one member is chosen to take charge just for that one meeting.

North Judson-San Pierre School Board to Discuss 2018 Budget Tonight, Following Special Meeting

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will work on the corporation’s 2018 budget this evening, after wrapping up some business before the start of the school year. School administrators weren’t quite done hiring teachers before last month’s regular meeting. The school board will meet in special session today at 5:00 p.m. to take care of those personnel items.

Winamac Park Board Discusses Continued Tree Removal, Pay Raise for Secretary

The removal of dying ash trees continues to be a concern for the Winamac Park Board, as it puts together its 2018 budget. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo estimates about 75 ash trees remain at the town park. He told the park board Monday that about six of those will soon have to be cut down by a contractor. Many of those are in danger of falling on shelters.
