Knox Board of Works Gets Update on Downtown Building Repairs
The Knox Board of Works members got an update on repairs being made to 1 and 3 N. Main Street in downtown Knox.
Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board members that a timeline was provided for repairs. Building Owner Pete Milev was given until May 2018 to complete extensive repairs to the exterior masonry and interior violations. Pfost said he mailed the timeline to Milev by certified mail on Dec. 12, but it has not been returned with a signature.
Knox Downtown Business Owner to Make Repairs to Building
The owner of two storefronts in downtown Knox will be making repairs to the building, as ordered by the members of the Knox Board of Public Works.
A public hearing on the matter was held on Wednesday morning as the owner, Pete Milev, has failed to repair any of the issues cited by Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost. Pfost said the buildings at 1 and 3 N. Main Street have several major issues including brick falling out of the exterior walls, missing mortar in other exterior bricks, an unsafe door leading to the basement of the building in the sidewalk, boarded up windows, an old sign that needs removed, drywall that is replacing two windows above the front door, and many interior code violations. Knox Board of Works Responds to Stop Order on Permit
The members of the Knox Board of Public Works discussed a stop order on a construction permit at 325 Carlson Drive.
According to City Attorney Leslie Baker, the Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost issued an order to stop work on Sept. 15 on a steel carport at that residence.
Concerns Surround Unsafe Building in Downtown Knox
The Knox Board of Public Works took action this week to enforce unsafe building violations on a downtown building.
The owner of 1 N. Main Street and 3 N. Main Street was previously told to replace glass from a broken window at the storefront at that location and it is currently boarded shut. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said that the owner has had plenty of time to make the proper changes. He was given 45 days to make repairs on several violations within the buildings and Estok said nothing has been done with only a handful of days left on the time frame allowed for repairs.
