The Pulaski County Commissioners have decided to disband the county’s IT Department. During Monday’s meeting, Commissioner Kenny Becker told IT Director Matt Voltz that the commissioners discussed the matter during an executive session last Thursday. “I guess we’re in the process of that the IT Department will be shut down July 1,” Becker said.

The Pulaski County Commissioners may have reached a solution on a long-disputed access lane. Several residents were at Monday’s meeting calling for Swayze Camp Lane to be reopened. It runs from County Road 400 South to the Swayze Camp subdivision along the Tippecanoe River south of Winamac.

The department’s fuel tanks only hold diesel, since that what the ambulances have typically used up until now. As discussions about the future of the Pulaski County Courthouse continue, health concerns have some county departments asking to have their offices moved. During Monday’s commissioners meeting, Assessor Holly VanDerAa said she’s had five employees get cancer after working in her basement office, and one of them passed away a few weeks ago.

The Pulaski County Commissioners have decided to continue outsourcing the lawn care at certain county properties, after all. Last year, the county contracted mowing at certain county properties out to TK Lawn Services. In January, the commissioners decided to rebid the contract for this year, but they decided last month to hold off on awarding the contract until Maintenance Director Mia Salyers could see what it would cost to repair or replace her department’s zero-turn lawnmower.

The Pulaski County Commissioners have hired a contractor to remove a large ash tree by the Annex Building. They officially approved a $2,000 bid from LeRoy’s Tree Service Monday. It was the only bid the county received.

The Pulaski County Commissioners are tweaking their meeting schedule slightly in 2019. They’ll continue to meet the first and third Mondays of each month at the courthouse, but the meeting on the third Monday will now start at 8:30 a.m., instead of 8:00.
Pulaski County’s 123-year-old courthouse would be torn down and replaced by a parking lot and memorial park, under the county’s latest facilities proposal. During Monday’s joint county council and commissioners meeting, Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston publicly unveiled a four-phase plan designed to address security, ADA compliance, and a number of other concerns with the county’s government buildings.
The Pulaski County Commissioners are still looking for a Democrat to replace Jim Thompson on the county’s advisory plan commission. No recommendations had been received by Monday’s commissioners meeting.
Pulaski County EMS Director Bryan Corn made his resignation official during Monday’s county commissioners meeting. “I did send you guys a letter,” he explained. “I’ll go ahead, and we’ll make it public. We’ll make it official. I will be resigning my position as the EMS director. That will be effective this coming Friday, December 7.”
Pulaski County is getting rid of some unused equipment. Last week, the county commissioners agreed to let Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff sell two Unimog utility vehicles at auction on December 8.
Pulaski County officials had to resolve some confusion over the county’s NIPSCO billing. Coroner John Behny told the county commissioners last week that he recently got a call from a NIPSCO representative with an order to disconnect gas service to the former Winamac Masonic Lodge, now called the West Annex.
Pulaski County has been able to recover some of the money owed to its revolving loan program. During last week’s joint session with the county council, the county commissioners accepted a $50,000 settlement from Jerry Howe, following a lawsuit.
