Efforts to add a memorial walking path to the Hamlet Town Park got a major boost, thanks to a recent fundraiser. On September 21, the Hamlet American Legion held a motorcycle ride in memory of Robert J. Tauteris Jr., who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2012. Proceeds will go toward the effort of building a trail in his honor.

Hamlet taxpayers may save some money next year due to the property tax cap, but the town’s budget will take a bit of a hit. Next year’s Yellowstone Trail Fest may include a beer garden. Festival President Larry Jernas discussed the idea with the Hamlet Town Council last week. He said a beer garden would not be allowed at the Starke County Fairgrounds, where most Yellowstone Trail Fest activities take place, so organizers are looking for another site nearby.

Hamlet Park Board Approves Facility Rental Fee Hike
Renting Hamlet’s park facilities will soon cost you a bit more. The park board voted Wednesday to charge $25 to rent a pavilion, along with restroom access. Five dollars will be refunded when the restroom key is returned to the town hall. Up until now, Hamlet only charged a $10 refundable deposit for pavilion rental.
Hamlet to Encourage Safe Driving with Sign Purchase
Motorists passing through Hamlet may soon be getting a safety reminder. On Wednesday, town council member Connie Bailey requested the town purchase signs that say, “We love our children, please drive carefully.” Continue reading
Starke Hospital Employees Schedule Day of Service
Associates at Starke Hospital will start next week with a beautification project at a local park. During their annual Day of Service on Monday, employees will be volunteering their time to install barbecue grills and park benches at the Hamlet Town Park.
