Knox Board of Works Waives Fees for Habitat for Humanity Project

This vacant lot at the corner of Prettyman and Delaware Streets in Knox will be the site of the next Starke-Pulaski Habitat for Humanity house.

Starke-Pulaski Habitat for Humanity officials hope to break ground on their home site in Knox within the next month. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok wants to schedule a formal groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of the project. Deadline Looms for Knox Property Owner

The owner of a dilapidated house in downtown Knox will present final renovation plans to the Knox Board of Works when they meet tomorrow morning. Lucia Valladares will also provide an update on the property cleanup at 6 N. Pearl Street. She told the board at their March meeting it would take between three and four weeks. Continue reading

Knox Doesn’t Qualify for Grant for Fire Station Expansion

The City of Knox did not qualify for a grant to make improvements to the south side fire station based on results of a recently completed income survey. Firefighters and city officials went door-to-door for several weeks to gather data from residents. Mayor Dennis Estok notes data from Center and part of Jackson Townships was also included since the fire department serves those areas. Continue reading

Knox Mayor Hopes to Reopen City Skate Park Soon

A popular amenity in Wythogan Park should be open again this spring. The skate park closed last July amid safety concerns over the wood ramps. During a recent appearance on WKVI’s “Grossman in the Morning” Mayor Dennis Estok said upgrade plans are in the works as the Knox Park Board’s funds allow. He says they intend to buy a new piece of equipment each year as funds allow. Continue reading
