North Judson Police Department to Host Women’s Self-Defense Class Next Month

The North Judson Police Department wants to ensure that local women and girls are equipped with the skills necessary to protect themselves in case of an emergency.

North Judson Police Department to Save Big with Glock Buyback Program

With time running out to take part in Glock’s buyback program, North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher discussed the related cost for some new guns with Town Council members this week.

At a meeting back in July, council members gave Marshal Fisher permission to peruse this opportunity which allows the department to trade in their current models that are about 2 decades old and get new ones at a reduced price.

Fisher told members, “We’re looking to get the new Glock 17 gen 5 9 millimeters versus the 357s that we have.” Continue reading

North Judson Town Council Approves Special Event Request from Max Health

Max Health in North Judson is permitted to host a 5-K run to benefit the Kid’s Closet Ministry, following a decision made by the Town Council members Tuesday evening.

Kathy Holem came before the council and informed them that she recently took over the Max Effex facility on Sheridan Avenue. She noted that it’s been renamed Max Health.

Holem explained that the organization is looking for a community service project so they decided to hold a 5-K walk and run event and donate the proceeds raised to the Kid’s Closet Ministry.  The plan is to hold it on Saturday, October 27th. Continue reading

North Judson Town Marshal Highlights School Involvement

At Monday night’s North Judson Town Council meeting, Town Marshal Kelly Fisher highlighted some of the ways that the police department stays involved with the school corporation.

She told the members that she and Officer Rico Simpson recently assisted with a drill at the North Judson-San Pierre Schools.

Fisher explained, “I was very impressed, especially with the high school kids. We went into the school and if I didn’t know any better, I wouldn’t think that there was staff or students or anybody anywhere in the school.” Continue reading

North Judson Town Officials and residents welcomed a new full-time officer to the police force during Monday night’s town council meeting.

At their first meeting of the month, town council members approved hiring Officer Jamie Conklin to the force full-time. Town Marshal Kelly Fisher shared a little bit about Officer Conklin.

She told members and meeting attendees, “He’s been through the academy, he’s worked part-time for me for a year and he’s an excellent employee, I’m glad to have him full-time. Prior to working with law enforcement, he had 8 years of active duty with the Navy so we’re definitely happy to have him aboard.” Continue reading

North Judson Town Marshal Submits Promotion Request to Town Council

The North Judson Police Department is adding a new full-time officer to the force.

The Department was back down to only three full-time officers following the recent resignation of James Dulin who was hired back in November. At the request of Town Marshal Kelly Fisher, Town Council members gave permission to promote part-time officer Jamie Conklin to full-time status. Continue reading

Starke County Students Receive Back-to-School Shopping Assistance During “Shop with a Cop”

North Judson Town Marshal Discusses Glock Buyback Opportunity

North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher informed town council members about buyback special being offered by the Glock fire-arms company.

She noted that North Judson police officers currently carry 357s and they’re about 20-year-old models. Marshal Fisher stated that the NJPD could trade in their old guns and the company would provide the force with 9mm guns, equipped with night site, for a discounted price of $110 each. Slip-n-Slide Your Way into Saturday with the North Judson Police Department

The North Judson Police Department wants to add a little color to your summer and they plan to do so with today’s blue foam Slip-n-Slide event at Norwayne Field.

The event is open to people of all ages and will run this afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Officers with the North Judson Police Department will be present at the event including K9 Officer Rico Simpson and his partner Jimy.

This creative community outreach event will feature blue slip-n-slides full of foam for residents to slide down. Continue reading

North Judson Officials Celebrate Success of Bluejay Fun Fair Revival

The NJSP Elementary School Bluejay Fun Fair, which was recently revived after years of not being held, was a huge success, according to the school superintendent and town officials.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said a total of $4,000 was raised and while some of that money will be set aside for next year’s fun fair, a portion of it will go to new playground equipment. During Monday night’s town council meeting, Town Marshal Kelly Fisher and Fire Chief Joe Leszek talked about their experiences pitching in at the event. Continue reading

North Judson K9 Officer Rico Simpson and his K9 Partner Jimy have been very busy now that they’re out of training and patrolling the town. Town Marshal Kelly Fisher provided a brief synopsis of some of the work that the two have accomplished in their first week of deployment during Monday night’s town council meeting.

Since April 9th, K9 Jimy has already assisted with several traffic stops and indicated the presence of suspected narcotics, marijuana, heroin and drug paraphernalia. Continue reading

North Judson Town Marshal Completes Chief School, K9 Officer Nears End of Training

North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher alerted town council members that she recently completed chief school through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

During her report Monday night, she told council members that she completed the schooling last week and was able to get some valuable information that will be beneficial to the department and town.

On a related note, she also mentioned that Officer Rico Simpson and his K9 Partner Jimy are in their final week of training at Vohne Liche Kennels. Simpson came in during Fisher’s report and provided a few details about his new K9 partner. Continue reading

NJ Town Marshal Talks Equipment Installation and Department Renovations at Council Meeting

All the necessary equipment needed for the North Judson Police Department K9 vehicle is almost completely installed.

Town Marshal Kelly Fisher told town council members Monday night, that the department has been utilizing the help of Matt Noonan to get the equipment installed.

North Judson Police Department Welcomes K9 Jimy to the Force

The highly anticipated addition to the North Judson Police Department is finally here.

Yesterday, Officer Rico Simpson picked his K9 partner out of more than 300 dogs at Vohne Liche Kennels. The dual-purpose K9 that he chose is named Jimy.

As a dual-purpose dog, Jimy will be able to assist with patrol work such as narcotics detection and apprehension, as well as tracking. Town Marshall Kelly Fisher previously reported that the tracking capabilities could not only help with finding criminals, but they could also come in handy for missing persons cases. Continue reading
