Oregon-Davis High School students are taking advantage of an online learning tool. The school board got an update Monday on the Apex program, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. “We have 24 seats,” he explains. “I think 13 students have earned 17 credits.”
Updated Crisis Plan Presented to Oregon-Davis School School Board
School security continues to be addressed by local school officials, following last week’s school shooting in Florida. Oregon-Davis Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the school corporation has been working on updating its crisis plan. “We’re looking at all different types of scenarios with crisis, whether that be a fire drill or tornado drill, or obviously intruder drill,” he explains. “But we’re also looking at death of a family member, death of a staff member, suicide.”
Calendar Options Presented to Oregon-Davis School Board
The Oregon-Davis School Board is considering adjustments to the school calendar, starting next school year. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says there are a couple areas of concern. “One is obviously looking at the Christmas break and how the Christmas break falls,” he explains, “and then also graduation. Right now, we have graduation on Friday. We’re looking at getting that to be on a Saturday.”

Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says it’s part of the latest round of school improvement plans. “We’re using quarterly assessments to measure our students,” he says, “instead of just a one-year assessment, for example, with ISTEP.”

Oregon-Davis Schools’ STEM education efforts are getting a boost, thanks to a grant for $51,500. That’s according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. “We were one of 82 school districts in the State of Indiana that received a Title IV grant from the state,” says Superintendent Dr. Don Harman, “which will be utilized for professional development to increase our teachers’ instructional capacity in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.”

The Oregon-Davis School Board has finalized some updates to the corporation’s Course Description Guide. Several new high school classes will be offered starting next school year, including Industrial Automation and Robotics, Criminal Justice, and Electronic Music.
