Last week, the commissioners agreed to reappoint Commissioner Kenny Becker to the Pulaski County Community Development Commission. They also reappointed Stanley Boehning and David Schambers to the property tax assessment board of appeals.

Prosecutor Dan Murphy has been asking for another full-time secretary, citing a significant increase in the number of cases being filed, along with the addition of new court programs. A vote on the matter ended in a three-to-three tie last month. Council President Jay Sullivan asked the county commissioners to weigh in, but they sent it back to the council without making a formal recommendation.

A second round of bidding has resulted in some slightly lower prices for planned paving work in Pulaski County. Plans call for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 550 South west of State Road 39 and County Road 600 South from State Road 119 to Base Road. The county is applying for a Community Crossings grant, to cover 75 percent of the cost.

They chose a $129,900 bid from Arrow Manufacturing out of Iowa, at the recommendation of EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo. “That’s where we’ve gotten our last three,” he explained, “so all the parts that I keep on hand for them, the latches that always break, they’ll fit this truck, as well.”

The Medaryville Fire Department’s efforts to build a new fire station have gotten a boost from the Pulaski County Commissioners. The commissioners agreed Monday to let the department apply for a Community Development Block Grant, with the county serving as the pass-through agency.
