Downed Trees Close Roads, Residents Warned to Avoid Fallen Power Lines

The local area is cleaning up after Monday’s storm. The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency is warning motorists not to drive around barricades and road closed signs. Residents are also asked not to try to remove limbs with power lines in them, due to the risk of electrocution.

Information Kiosk Coming to Starke County Forest

Visitors to the Starke County Forest will soon be greeted with an informational kiosk. The Starke County Park Board last week agreed to let Forester Bruce Wakeland build it out of wood from the forest itself.

Range Road Paving Project to Start Monday

Range Road will be under construction starting Monday. Rieth-Riley Construction will be upgrading the road to hot mix asphalt between State Road 10 and Toto Road. The Starke County Highway Department was awarded more than half a million dollars in Community Crossings grant funding to cover 75 percent of the cost.

Veterans Memorial Crowdfunding Campaign Almost Halfway to Goal

The new Starke County Veterans Memorial is almost halfway to its crowdfunding goal. If the effort raises $50,000 by July 21, that amount will be doubled by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. Almost $22,000 has been raised so far.

Starke County Community Crossings Project to Begin May 11

Starke County Road 50 S. from State Road 39 to the Knox City Limits will be upgraded to hot mix asphalt beginning Monday, May 11.  Officials from the Starke County Highway Department say it is a major route for the Knox Industrial Park and will benefit both employers and employees.
