Culver Town Council Tables Annexation Ordinance
The annexation ordinance involving parcels at 17664 State Road 17 and 19456 State Road 10 in Culver is tabled. Thomas Beste recently requested that action in a written notice to the Culver Town Council. Two readings of the ordinance have unanimously passed, but the third reading will be on hold.
This decision comes after the council rejected the first reading of an ordinance that would rezone those 71 acres as a Planned Unit Development for a housing development and gas station. Several residents spoke out in a lengthy public hearing earlier this month against the proposed gas station on the north side of State Road 10.
Culver Town Council to Meet Tonight
The Culver Town Council members are anticipated to adopt several ordinances when they meet tonight.
A rezoning ordinance that would change the BP Good Oil zoning from C-2 to C-1 for proposed renovations is up for third reading as is a rezoning ordinance to properly rezone park property into a park. A salary ordinance amendment will be considered for third reading.

Culver Town Council to Hold Public Hearings Tonight
The Culver Town Council members will hold public hearings tonight on several different topics.
A public hearing concerning the annexation of the five contiguous parcels at 17664 State Road 17 and 19456 State Road 10 will be held as well as a public hearing for the rezoning of those parcels to a Planned Unit Development. The second reading of the annexation ordinance will be considered along with the first reading of the rezoning ordinance in this matter tonight.
Culver Joins Disaster Declaration for Marshall County
The Culver Town Council members acknowledged Culver’s inclusion in Marshall County’s designation in a disaster declaration for flooding. Any residents experiencing flood damage are encouraged to call 2-1-1 or the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency at 574-936-3740. All damage is to be reported for a better chance of receiving federal assistance for repairs and recovery.
Culver Town Council to Make Amendments to Salary Ordinance
The Culver Town Council members will take a closer look at amendments to the 2018 salary ordinance.
A proposed change was made in the EMS and park departments. The EMS Vice Director would be amended to be a full-time ALS-EM2 position with an hourly range $11.75-$17.50.
Culver Town Council Discusses Interlocal Agreement
The Culver Town Council members reviewed an interlocal agreement between the town, Marshall County and Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt.
It was the same document presented to the county commissioners last week for approval. Town Manager Jonathan Leist explained then that the agreement allows DeWitt to assist Culver with needs during county business hours on an annual basis. The fee was increased to $3,000 to bring it in line with the same services to the Town of Argos.
Culver Town Council Opens Amphitheater Bids
The Culver Town Council members opened bids Tuesday night for the proposed Damore Amphitheater project in the Culver Town Park.
Four bids were received with the lowest bid coming in with a base bid of $131,450. The separation between the lowest bid and the next lowest bid was merely $25. The highest base bid was $189,355.
Large Culver Sign to be Replaced
The large-scale Culver sign at the Culver Town Park will be replaced by the time WinterFest begins on Friday, Feb. 9.
Park Superintendent Anna Campbell told the Culver Town Council members this week that the sign spelling out C-U-L-V-E-R will go in the same place where the plywood sign is now. A mock-up placard that describes the history of the name of the Lake Maxinkuckee town will be included next to the sign until a more concrete structure can be constructed.
Culver Town Council Gets Update on Winter Operations
The winter weather has put a dent in the Town of Culver’s road salt supply.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the Culver Town Council members Tuesday night that half of the town’s salt supply has been used to help clear roads in town so far this season. He assured the council members that the town’s contract with the salt supplier allows the town to purchase more at the current rate if the supply reaches a critical level.
Public Hearing on Culver Traffic Ordinance Tonight
The Culver Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight to consider comments on the town’s proposed traffic ordinance.
The traffic ordinance designates a congested motor vehicle traffic and pedestrian area on Lakeshore Drive and signage will be placed between 508 Lakeshore east to 824 Lakeshore Drive. The ordinance also creates a no parking zone for 50 feet from the intersection on both sides of the street on Batabano and South Plymouth Street.
Culver Town Council Approves Second Reading on Traffic Ordinance
The Culver Town Council members approved the second reading of the proposed traffic ordinance when they met Tuesday night.
The traffic ordinance designates a congested motor vehicle traffic and pedestrian area on Lakeshore Drive and signage will be placed between 508 Lakeshore east to 824 Lakeshore Drive. The ordinance also creates a no parking zone for 50 feet from the intersection on both sides of the street on Batabano and South Plymouth Street.
Culver Considers Consultant for Stellar Projects
The Culver Town Council members considered a proposal from Mike Reese with the Troyer Group to assist the town in the many aspects required within the town’s designation as a Stellar Community.
Reese said there are a lot of components to the grant and other requirements to be considered.
