The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum has been limiting its train rides to one day a month, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This Saturday, the museum will offer three 10-mile excursions to English Lake. They’ll leave the North Judson depot at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.

Continue readingA Winamac Park Board member is voicing his frustration after someone apparently vandalized the new restrooms along the Winamac Parkway. “I went in there a few weeks ago to look and there was trash everywhere in there, and people went to the bathroom and plugged it up,” Chris Schramm told the rest of the park board last week. “I assume kids are doing that. I mean, it looked terrible.”
LaPorte County Police have arrested four people in connection with last month’s burglary of a home in the Kingsbury Industrial Park. It was initially reported on July 18. At the time, officers said a group of people had apparently vandalized the home and stole several items while the resident, a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran, was away visiting family.
LaPorte County Police are looking for multiple people who they believe vandalized and stole several items from the home of a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran. Officers say that over the past week, guns, prescription drugs, and a large amount of scrap metal have been taken from the property along 3rd Line Road in the Kingsbury Industrial Park. On top of that, several vehicles reportedly had their windows shattered and one vehicle was flipped over.
A Knox Man has been charged with 10 counts of criminal mischief and one count of reckless driving after he was reportedly spotted vandalizing a campaign sign Saturday afternoon.
According to a press release issued by the Knox City Police Department, shortly before 1:50 p.m. on April 14th, Knox Police Chief Harold Smith was traveling north bound in his personal vehicle on Highway 35 just north of 200 S. The Knox City Police Department arrested five juveniles for their alleged involvement in a rash of vandalism on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Park Superintendent George Byer told members about a recent string of spray-painting related vandalism that has been reported in various places around the city, including Wythogan Park.
Byer said he spotted a blue can of spray paint on a picnic table while doing a run through of the park on Saturday.
However, due to the high waters, he didn’t get a chance to investigate the scene until Sunday morning. Though the graffiti he found was reportedly small and easily fixed, he said while discussing the incident with police he learned the park wasn’t the only place that was hit. Continue reading

LaPorte Police are investigating after several vehicles saw their tires slashed on Friday evening.
According to information provided by the police department, officers were called to the 200 block of Lincolnway around 8:20 p.m. on Friday. Investigators found that 31 tires were slashed on 12 different cars. These vehicles were now taken to an auto shop to replace all car tires.
LaPorte Police are investigating after several items were vandalized at the High School.
Officers were notified by LaPorte Schools Superintendent Mike Fraze. He claims that sometime between Friday and Monday, six LaPorte High School Marching Band signs were defaced.

The number of vandalism reports in Wythogan Park has slowed, but it continues.
Knox Mayor Rick Chambers is attempting to gather information to help curb the ongoing damage reported in Knox’s most popular park.
A meeting is set for Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox where opinions will be noted about ways to improve security. Any other suggestions will be welcome during this information session.
The mayor of Knox is attempting to gather as many groups as possible to talk about the solutions to curb the ongoing vandalism issue in Wythogan Park.
Mayor Rick Chambers has organized a meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center to gather opinions from several groups to look at the problem from all angles.
