Interest in pickleball continues to
grow in Knox and Winamac. The expansion of the Winamac Town Park’s
pickleball facilities last year has proven to be a good decision.
That’s what Jon Chapman told the rest of the town’s park board last
Thursday.
Knox City Council members considered a resolution related to the water and wastewater utilities and the splash pad in Wythogan Park when they met Tuesday night.
A car and bike show, outdoor concerts,
and movies are just some of the events planned for this summer at
Wythogan Park. The Knox School Board got an update last week from
board member Gary Dulin, who serves as the school board’s
representative on the Knox Park Board.
The Starke County Park Board has gotten $5,000 toward a planned Yellow River access point, but where exactly it will be built remains to be determined. Starke County Community Foundation Director of Development Jessica Martinovic presented the park board with a check during Tuesday’s meeting.
The possibility of hiring outside help for a future parking lot project at Wythogan Park was discussed by Mayor Dennis Estok during the last Knox City Council meeting.
Starke County Court Services representatives will host a Fall-o-Ween Family Fun Fest event today for those participating in home detention supervision. Activities, food and prizes will be given to participants and their family members during the festivities at Wythogan Park in Knox.

A 1970 American LaFrance Aero Chief Fire Truck that made its way from Stark County, Ohio to Starke County, Indiana has a new home at the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department thanks to a local donor.
The truck has a boom that extends up to 90 feet and is fully functional. Assistant Fire Chief Dave Pearman said department officials are extremely grateful to Melba Shilling for providing this donation. Continue reading →

The Town of Hamlet will once again contribute to the Knox fireworks display. The town council Wednesday approved a $150 donation for this year’s fireworks, according to Hamlet Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts. That amount is unchanged from last year.

The Wythogan Skate Park, which is currently closed and in need of repairs, was discussed during last Monday’s park plan public hearing as well as the regular Knox Park Board meeting.
During the public hearing for the 5-year Master Plan for Knox Parks, Architect Mike Reese with the Troyer Group mentioned the conditions of the skate park, saying that much of the equipment and materials are damaged and in need of upgrades. Park Superintendent George Byer told members about a recent string of spray-painting related vandalism that has been reported in various places around the city, including Wythogan Park.
Byer said he spotted a blue can of spray paint on a picnic table while doing a run through of the park on Saturday.
However, due to the high waters, he didn’t get a chance to investigate the scene until Sunday morning. Though the graffiti he found was reportedly small and easily fixed, he said while discussing the incident with police he learned the park wasn’t the only place that was hit. Continue reading →

After spending many days closed due to flooding, Wythogan Park in Knox has reopened.
