Winamac Park Board to Get Update on Grant Application for Town Park Improvements

The Winamac Park Board is expected to get an update tonight on its application for grant funds for Town Park upgrades. The park board has applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant to help pay for the replacement of the park’s main restrooms and get new equipment for the toddler playground. The application also contained various smaller items, including a permanent cornhole court, frisbee golf equipment, new basketball backboards, and a new bench.

Pulaski County Courthouse Elevator Tentatively Scheduled to Be Ready for Monday, Despite Delays

Pulaski County officials are hopeful that the courthouse’s new elevator will be ready in time for Monday’s county commissioners meeting, in spite of a last-minute hiccup. Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston says a fire alarm issue means the elevator probably won’t be in service by tomorrow, as previously announced. But the contractor says it should still be ready for Monday, according to Johnston. He adds that crews are working diligently to get it done.

Donations Highlighted at Knox School Board Meeting

Donations for school safety training and an elementary school field trip were formally accepted by the Knox School Board last week. The school corporation received $834 from the Starke County Community Foundation’s Go for School Safety Fund. That helped with the cost of last month’s active shooter tabletop exercise for Starke County school officials and first responders. The school board also accepted a donation from the Bennett family, to help pay for the third grade field trip to Fair Oaks Farms.

Fiscal Planning Consultant to Pulaski County Council: ‘You’re on a Track That You Can’t Continue On’

Pulaski County’s tax structure is not sustainable. That’s what fiscal planning consultant Jeffrey Peters told the county council during a public hearing Monday. “You’re on a track that you can’t continue on,” he said, “and those income taxes are going to have to be shifted around in some fashion, in order to get you back to an equilibrium to provide services under a revenue model that does not eat up all your cash over time.”

North Judson Man Dies in Kosciusko County Crash

A North Judson man is dead, after a crash Monday morning in Kosciusko County. Officials with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department say it happened around 6:40 EDT at the intersection of U.S. 30 and 350 West. Witnesses told police that a 2015 Peterbilt semi was trying to turn left onto westbound U.S. 30, when the driver slowed down or stopped in the median. That’s when an eastbound Dodge passenger car reportedly hit the semi.
