Local school administrators are looking toward the state’s new Graduation Pathways as a way to help current students struggling to pass the ISTEP. Knox High School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff told the school board last week that the initiative provides more options to students planning careers in various skilled trades.

Knox Middle School is reporting success with its new after-school tutoring program. Principal Jake Skelly told the school board last week that between Math and English/Language Arts, about 44 students have been taking part. Knox School Board Gets Update on New After-School Tutoring Initiative at Middle, High Schools
$25,000 Worth of Equipment Donated to Knox High School Graphic Arts Department
Knox High School’s Graphic Arts Department is getting a major equipment upgrade, thanks to a recent donation. Compliance Signs gave the school two Roland wide body printers, valued at $12,500 each. On top of that, CutCardStock of Valparaiso has donated $450 worth of paper. The donations were officially accepted by the school board last week.
Redskin Academy Up and Running
The Knox school officials are reporting success with the new alternative high school program. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Peggy Shidaker told the school board last week that 29 students are enrolled in the Redskin Academy. Sixteen of them attend full-time.
Knox High School Roof Work Nearing Completion
Construction is wrapping up at Knox High School. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board Tuesday that the high school’s new roof is almost complete. “The only thing left is there’s about 5,000 square feet of stone that still needs to go up above the pool area,” he explained. “They delivered stone today, and they hopefully will finish that up this weekend.”
Knox Schools, Ivy Tech Exploring Graduation Pathways Partnership
The Knox Community School Corporation is looking to partner with Ivy Tech Community College to help students meet the state’s new graduation requirements. During a recent school board meeting, Knox Schools Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said that he and a couple other school officials met with representatives from Ivy Tech. He said Ivy Tech is willing to form a partnership with Knox Schools based on Indiana’s new Graduation Pathways. “They really want to get involved with Knox Community Schools,” Reichhart told board members. “They made that quite clear to us. And I believe that we want to get involved with them, as well.”
