LaPorte County Police are looking for multiple people who they believe vandalized and stole several items from the home of a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran. Officers say that over the past week, guns, prescription drugs, and a large amount of scrap metal have been taken from the property along 3rd Line Road in the Kingsbury Industrial Park. On top of that, several vehicles reportedly had their windows shattered and one vehicle was flipped over.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Looking for Non-Compliant Sex Offender
LaPorte County Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a non-compliant sex offender. Darell L. Eckwood is wanted for two felony counts of failure to register as a sex offender, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He’s considered a serious sex offender with residency restrictions, after police say he was convicted of child molestation back in 2011.
LaPorte County Police Investigate Weekend Drowning
Police say a LaPorte County man drowned Saturday afternoon, in a pond in the 7100 block of West Joliet Road. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says Glenn F. Zeman, 61, had been out on the pond in a watercraft. But then family members who’d been there with him said they couldn’t find him. Police say the watercraft Zeman had been riding was then found capsized, and his body was pulled from the water a short time later.
Dentist with North Judson Practice Arrested, Following Fatal February Crash
A dentist with a practice in North Judson has been arrested, in connection with a February crash that left one person dead. According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey J. Bilyak, 47, of Chesterton, surrendered himself at the LaPorte County Jail Wednesday. Officers say a warrant had been issued for his arrest, following an investigation into the February 15 crash.

LaPorte County Police are investigating the apparent shootings of two horses and possibly a cow last week. A sheriff’s deputy was called to the 7300 block of East Emery Road in Hudson Lake, after a resident noticed that two horses on his property appeared to have sustained bullet wounds, one in its front right leg, the other in its front left leg.
Five Seriously Injured in LaPorte-Area Crash Sunday
Five people were seriously injured Sunday, after police say an SUV pulled into the path of an oncoming semi truck near LaPorte.
