Driving over 100 miles per hour while over three times the legal limit for alcohol reportedly led to the arrest of a South Bend man in LaPorte County Friday afternoon. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it happened on a stretch of U.S. 20 that has seen several fatal accidents in the past year.
Victims of Fatal U.S. 20 Crash Identified, As Investigation Continues
Police have released the names of the two people killed in a crash on U.S. 20 Friday night. Don Kaczmarek, 47, and his wife Angie Kaczmarek, 49, of Michigan City were killed, when a 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Tron Gorbonosenko, 40, of New Carlisle reportedly crashed head-on into their Honda Odyssey. It happened around 7:40 p.m. Friday near Bootjack Road, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

LaPorte County Road Work Set for Next Week
Road work is planned in La Porte County next week to increase safety on U.S. 20.
Indiana Department of Transportation crews will install rumble strips on U.S. 20 between U.S. 35 and the U.S. 20 and State Road 2 intersection. Officials say engineers found a way to use equipment and resources from a nearby project on State Road 39 to install this safety enhancement on the heavily traveled highway.
