The Winamac Park Board’s application for grant funding for Town Park upgrades appears to have gotten state approval. The town hasn’t officially received an award letter, but DNR officials told Park Board Secretary Kim Burke that the application is on the state-approved list.
The Winamac Park Board is expected to get an update tonight on its application for grant funds for Town Park upgrades. The park board has applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant to help pay for the replacement of the park’s main restrooms and get new equipment for the toddler playground. The application also contained various smaller items, including a permanent cornhole court, frisbee golf equipment, new basketball backboards, and a new bench.
The Winamac Park Board is still waiting to find out whether it’s been awarded grant funding for upgrades to the Town Park. The park board had applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant to help pay for the replacement of the park’s main restrooms and get new equipment for the toddler playground.
The Winamac Park Board will discuss the possibility of getting a second round of construction bids for the replacement of the main restrooms in the Town Park, when it meets tonight. Back in June, board members rejected the three original bids, after the lowest bidder decided to pull his bid.
The finishing touches have been made to the Winamac Park Board’s amended application for the Land Water Conservation Fund grant.

The Winamac Park Board will continue its discussion of the Town Park’s pickleball facilities tonight. A proposal has been brought forward to convert the remaining tennis court into two more pickleball courts, to accommodate a growing number of players.
A project to replace the restrooms in the Winamac Town Park attracted three construction bids. Bids were opened Thursday, during a special park board meeting.
The Winamac Park Board reiterated Thursday that it will not apply for a grant for the town’s swimming pool project this year. The town has put the project on hold, due to concerns that money wouldn’t be available to run the pool if it’s built. The Winamac Pool Committee has proposed a cheaper option, but so far, it hasn’t gotten the official support of the town council.
Efforts to replace the equipment in the Winamac Town Park’s toddler playground got a financial boost during Thursday’s park board meeting. The Winamac Eagles presented a $4,000 donation in memory of Steve Girton, while the town’s American Legion post presented a check for $2,000.
The Winamac Eagles club will formally present a donation for playground equipment to the town’s park board tonight. Several community groups have offered to chip in, to help replace the equipment in the Town Park’s toddler playground.
The Winamac Park Board discussed some of its plans for the Town Park with a small group of local residents during a public hearing Monday. Park Board President Courtney Poor explained that the board plans to apply for a federally-funded Land and Water Conservation Fund grant. “What this is for is two things,” he said. “We want to build a new restroom and we’re looking for some help for that over at the park, and we also want to completely revamp, if possible, the small children’s playground and to make it ADA-compliant, as best we can.”
