Marshall County Coroner John Grolich has confirmed that an accident between a semi and an Eastern Pulaski Community School Bus resulted in one fatality Wednesday morning (12/5). The collision occurred between 13th and 14th Roads on U.S. 31 near Argos.

A major sewer lining project that was being conducted in the City of Knox has been completed.
Wastewater Department Superintendent Kelly Clemons discussed the project with members of the Board of Works when they met last Wednesday. She mentioned that the videos taken during the project were received and viewed.
She added that the invoice for the project was submitted and noted that it was for about $1,400 more than the original bid that was submitted by LiquiForce back in the summertime. Continue reading

The Knox Board of Works members considered a request from residents at 205 S Main Street when they met this week.
Mayor Dennis Explained that the homeowners were seeking permission to place a dumpster in the road in front of their home as they complete some roof work. The National Weather Service is advising of the potential for heavy rainfall for this weekend, with up to one inch anticipated.
Local emergency management official Clyde Avery issued an alert saying that heavy rain combined with melting snow and frozen or partly frozen ground may result in some flooding of low lying areas. He said this could include ponding on road surfaces and rises on rivers over the weekend into early next week. Continue reading
The Monterey Christmas Parade that was scheduled for Saturday, December 1st has been postponed. Parade Organizer Pat Daily said it has been moved to next Saturday on December, 8th and the parade will still take place at 6:30 p.m.

The Knox Police Department’s K-9 O’Neill will soon be equipped with a brand new ballistics vest thanks to a generous donation.
Sergeant Chad Dulin, who serves as the city’s K-9 officer delivered the monthly report for the police department at Wednesday morning’s Board of Works meeting.
During the report, Sergeant Dulin said a $1,000 donation was received and those funds were utilized to order a new vest for his K-9 partner. Continue reading
The inaugural Starke County Holiday Market is taking place this Saturday. The Starke County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting these holiday shopping events on the first four Saturdays in December to give residents a chance to do their seasonal shopping locally.
Vendors can start setting up in the Knox Mall at 8 a.m. and individuals are responsible for bringing their own tables and chairs. The event will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow and the initial prize drawing for the Shop Local Bingo game will be held around 1 p.m. Continue reading

Knox Police Chief Harold Smith asked city council members to review the city’s no parking fines when members met Tuesday night.

Members of the Knox Board of Works approved the 2019 Holiday Schedule when they met Wednesday morning.
The only question about the document came from member Steve Dodge who asked if there were city elections next year. Mayor Dennis Estok and Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston confirmed that local elections will be held in 2019. Continue reading
When the Starke County Young Professionals Group met earlier this month, they covered a few different organizational matters.
For instance, members discussed whether they should remain a committee under the Starke County Chamber of Commerce or if they should branch out and go through the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
There was a consensus among the members in attendance that it would be more beneficial to remain a committee under the Chamber for the time being. Continue reading
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board held the first reading over a new set of NEOLA policies when they met last Tuesday.
Superintendent Annette Zupin mentioned that the majority of the revisions had to do with changing outdated language.
She said some wording had to be adjusted to include information about designated diplomas, heat-related medical training for coaches and metal detectors. They also had to insert the terms Operations Fund and Educational fund in the place of former accounts. Continue reading
