The owner of 6 N. Pearl Street in Knox appeared before the Knox Board of Public Works members on Wednesday morning to bring them up to speed on renovation efforts at the home.
Paperwork will begin on the legal process on unsafe properties identified in the Parkview Heights area in Knox and in the downtown area.
The Knox Board of Works members got an update on the renovation efforts on two identified unsafe structures.
Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost said Lucia Valladares hasn’t gotten any work done for a couple of months. She told Pfost that she hopes to resume efforts in March. The construction permit expires May 22. The board approved a motion to request for her to appear at the next meeting on Wednesday, March 28. She also owns property on Bender Street that needs renovation work.
Another unsafe structure the Knox Board of Public Works would like to see progress on is at 6 N. Pearl Street.
The owner, Lucia Valladares, has gotten some work done, but the renovation effort has stalled. Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board members Wednesday morning that she has a family member in California suffering from medical issues and she has been there. A lot of her funds are now going to help her family member. She will be able to do what she can.

According to Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost, the building’s owner has replaced the glass on the ground floor of the two-story building and installed insulation and OSB boards around the windows and above the front door. Pfost says owner Pete Milev plans to put some finished material over the OSB, but he’s not sure what material may be installed.

The owner of 1 and 3 N. Main Street, Pete Milev, is anticipated to give the board an update on repairs needed to that downtown building. Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board members last month that a timeline was provided for repairs. Milev was given until May 2018 to complete extensive repairs to the exterior masonry and interior violations. There are smaller improvements that should have been done by Jan. 12.

The board members plan on getting an update on repairs to 1 and 3 N. Main Street. Building Owner Pete Milev was ordered by the board at their last meeting to make substantial progress on exterior and interior issues to the buildings. Earlier this year, Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost sent Milev a list of code enforcement violations and a time frame in which to make those repairs. No repairs were made by the November meeting so it is the hope of the board to get a positive report this morning. They are expecting to see a timelime of repairs and substantial progress on the violations noted. If those items are not to the board’s satisfaction, a $2,500 fee will be imposed.
The owner of two storefronts in downtown Knox will be making repairs to the building, as ordered by the members of the Knox Board of Public Works.
A public hearing on the matter was held on Wednesday morning as the owner, Pete Milev, has failed to repair any of the issues cited by Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost. Pfost said the buildings at 1 and 3 N. Main Street have several major issues including brick falling out of the exterior walls, missing mortar in other exterior bricks, an unsafe door leading to the basement of the building in the sidewalk, boarded up windows, an old sign that needs removed, drywall that is replacing two windows above the front door, and many interior code violations. The members of the Knox Board of Public Works discussed a stop order on a construction permit at 325 Carlson Drive.
According to City Attorney Leslie Baker, the Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost issued an order to stop work on Sept. 15 on a steel carport at that residence.
