A Knox school administrator has been named the new assistant principal at Culver Community Middle/High School. The hiring of Josh Pugh was announced on the school’s Facebook page Monday. The job became open when the school board decided to separate the assistant principal position from the athletic director position last month.

Knox School officials are beginning to see some success with updated drop-off and pickup procedures. Previously, cars had been lining up on local roads around the elementary and middle schools. Knox City Police have asked elementary school parents not to arrive to pick up students before 2:20 p.m. Officers say any cars standing on Culver Road will be issued a ticket.

The threat of Saturday school was apparently successful in helping Knox Middle School students improve failing grades. The number of students with at least one failing grade dropped by nearly three-quarters in a one-week period thanks to the program, according to Principal Jake Skelly.
Knox Middle School will be getting a new “maker space,” thanks to a $25,000 grant from the 1st Source Foundation. 1st Source representatives formally presented a check to Principal Jake Skelly during Tuesday’s school board meeting.
Knox Middle School is reporting success with its new after-school tutoring program. Principal Jake Skelly told the school board last week that between Math and English/Language Arts, about 44 students have been taking part. Another way to help students who have fallen behind is being put in place at Knox Middle and High schools.
Knox High School’s Graphic Arts Department is getting a major equipment upgrade, thanks to a recent donation. Compliance Signs gave the school two Roland wide body printers, valued at $12,500 each. On top of that, CutCardStock of Valparaiso has donated $450 worth of paper. The donations were officially accepted by the school board last week.
The upcoming Manufacturing Day events in Starke County will be covered in part by a Purdue IN-MaC micro grant.
